I'm trying to look for a good, basic cable deal so that I can get FSN and see all the Rockets games...I live out in Katy so I'm not sure how the whole "being blocked out because of the 30-mile radius thing works"...so can anyone recommend me a simple cable package that includes FSN and wont be blocked out even if I live in Katy (which is 30 miles outside of Houston)...thanks...

Hey I also live in Katy (between Fry and Mason) and I have Dish network through SBC. I get it for 30 bucks I believe (actaully a little cheaper cause I haggled w/ em cuz I use them for DSL and phones too). Its been excellent for me. The games actually come on a sports alternate channel above FSN (prolly somethin to do with the blackout garbage) but it is just the FSN broadcast. I also get DVR free with it so its truly great. I think I watched that amazing Barry pass like 50 times last yr haha.

Cable sucks and is a rip-off. Get Dish Network [not to be confused with DirectTV], it is the best deal out there plus they give you free DVR. Make sure you get the package that gives you FSN, I think it it like $5 more than the very basic package. Rockets games come either on channel 51 or one of the FSN alternate channels.

Not if you also use cable for phone and Roadrunner (which is WAY faster than DSL).

I had the Dish and the reception blew chunks. Plus, it didn't give me any other options. I can't stand Time/Warner as a company, but Cable, Roadrunner and Digital Phone for $99 is a great deal.

no doubt...I have had zero problems with my TWC.

at least when it storms my cable doesnt go out, which is more than I can say for when I had a sat...

I also live >30 miles outside HOuston(baytown) and I never miss a game...it is either on KNWS(which sucks) or FSN-Houston...both of which are in the extended basic cable package.(which is pretty cheap)

Cool...thanks guys...appreciate the help...I'm still deciding because I've heard mixed reviews about TWC...but the dish network that is most successful, is that this one: http://www.dishnetwork.com/ ? I'm just making sure that I get a good one and not one thats of low quality or standard...

Don't you get blacked out in Austin? If you have dish, it should be on your guide on one of the alternate FSN channels, but it's probably blacked out.

    I'm a student in UT's dorms.

Looks like no game for me. I can't get pplive to work, I think because of the network connection here in the dorm.

    This really pisses me off.

TWC does not require storms for it to be *out*. When I had DirecTv, I lost transmission for no more 15 minutes in a four year period. My most recent experience with TWC has been better than before.

So TWC is better now than before? They have improved service and quality? Now I'm just confused lol...I just want a quality cable company who provides FSN for a reasonable price because I want to be able to see all the Rockets games...I dont care about extra packages and stuff like that; just a company where FSN is not completely subject to blackouts and where I can watch quality Rox games...

You will never get a Rockets game in Austin on FSN, unless the Rockets are playing the Spurs. As a UT alum, I can attest to that.

I'm from Katy, and my family has TWC/roadrunner. We have had it for about 10 years, and we get every Rockets home game, like tonight(on FSSW). If it's not on FSN, its on KNWS usually. We have never had an issue with blackouts either. The only time that might come into play is on a national broadcast, but you get those channels in any basic cable packages, and it's rare.

You'll need cable or a satellite system and NBA League Pass to see games anywhere outside of Houston.

By the way, just FYI, the Rockets do not control what games are shown on various networks outside a 30-mile radius from downtown. The NBA controls that and the Rockets have no say in it whatsoever, unfortunately.

Does anyone else with TWC get a sound like a sheet of metal wobbling when watching FSN?
