You give basso way too much credit. He is just as intellectually dishonest as tj and lil t. He routinely labels his opponents as making common cause with terrorists and is willfully dense about any point of fact that is disagreeable.

Dude, you got own3d in the previous post. Just accept it and move on instead of being a jerk.

There's no doubt about that, at times. But I think that's natural human reaction. When you get attacked, you fight back. We're at the point where it's probably 5-1 or 10-1 in terms of active, consistent posters on the left vs. the right. I would venture to guess it gets frustrating to be the sole voice on his side, and then it doesn't help to add the twins, which just hurt his argument even more with their bizarre rantings. Sometimes, it's just easier to snap and yell back. :) So I tend to give basso more slack, because I've seen plenty of rational debates with him. That's also why I think, if there were more of the thoughtful conservatives here, we'd consistently see a better debate, with basso being a part of that.

Major, I'm sorry that you are jealous of my educational background. Are you having trouble making ends meet? Don't have enough money to contribute to the website where you have spent 6 years of your life and made over 6,000 posts?

Need a loan from a Rice grad? :D

Well, I'm sure you're right that it is incredibly frustrating for basso, tj, and lil t to be outnumbered politically on a message board devoted to a Texas sports team. Who woulda thunk it? I can only attribute it to the inherent intelligence of the average Rockets fan.

You are truly pathetic. You have the audacity to make fun of people who make ends meet. And you think you are something because you went to the 17th best school in America? You're funny.

You must have missed Major's string of personal attacks. It's called a counterpunch.

"Republicans are outraged," Sen. Christopher Bond (R-Mo.) reported. "I just ate lunch, and it's upset my stomach."

GHWB was part of the buisiness school faculty, prior to being President (and probably during). I am unsure if GHWB actually taught a class or gave a single lecture at Rice.

I see the Republican party in a massive downward spiral. Hope you lads have fun in the spindown. Didn't Reagan win 49 states? In the last election you barely got a majority against one of the weakest Democratic campaigns in decades, yet it scared you so badly that it had to be called a mandate. Reagan's election was a mandate and he brought as ton of undecided and conservative Democrats into his party. Problem is the GOP has been bleeding support ever since. Did the Dem's pick it up? Hell no. That's where the majority of people sit now, between the two party's. But the GOP's biggest problem is that they are catering to the loudest screamers, the radical right. You make fun of ol' Howard Dean all you want. His rants seem completely sane compared to a guy trying to legislate based on what he thinks almighty God wants us to do. or Rick Santorum for that matter.
The evidence of this swing towards the radical right can be seen in the latest Supreme Court nominees. Miers, a woman that said that W was the smartest man alive [that's always done in an Adam Sandler voice in my head. Just seems to fit...] was rejected by the radical right because she was too much of a wild card. Seriously, a woman that devoted the last several years of her career championing the President's causes is NOT right enough for these folks. So she drops out and in comes Alito. A guy that thinks if a married woman is going to have an abortion the state should FORCE her to tell her husband. That guy is alright with them.

This is by far the most ridiculous D&D thread that I have ever seen. Both Republicans and Democrats are wrong here...are you all acting out your 12 year old selves here?

actually, that guy is alright with me too, and it has nothing to do with religion, a woman's body, or being far right or left. If we as a society are going to require men to provide child support, we should also give them a voice in the decision to have, or not have, children. my body, my child, our responsibility is not a formula i'm comfortable with.

I understand your reasoning for the ends of wanting a male to have some say in procreation, I completely disagree with the means. Forcing a woman to keep a pregnancy because she does not wish to tell her husband about it is not a legitimate function of government and that is what we are talking about in this case.

Gee, I bet you haven't really thought this through.

What you are suggesting is that the government must determine who every child's father is. If a wife get PG from a lover not her husband, her lover not her husband would have to sign off on any abortion. Thus, if her husband petitions a court to stop his wife from having an abortion, the court would need to determine if the child was his to see if he had a right to make the petition.

Now we are talking family values!!!
