could you see Rudy T being the GM for the Rockets, or is he done with basketball altogether? Obviously this is pure speculation, but IMO I think Rudy would have the cred to be a very good GM in the NBA.

In any case, I miss the guy and hope he comes back to the team in some way in the very near future.

I do miss the days of him passing on Rashard Lewis for Bryce Drew and Mirsad Turkcan. ;)

I would love to see him come back to the Rockets in some fashion, but not as the GM. Maybe as the President or something. I'm just not sure how JVG and Rudy would work together.

How about move JVG to GM and bring Rudy back as the coach?

We don't need more Cato and Matt Maloney deals. Is there something else he could do for us?

You've got to be kidding. Do you actually miss iso-ball?

I love Rudy T as much as any other Rocket fan but at some point you have to stop living in the past and move on.

As long as Van GUndy is coach Rudy will not be back with the Rockets in any capasity. THe reason I say this is because Van Gundy might look at it as Alexander undermining his authority as coach. What do you guys think? Go Rockets!!!

If Rudy was still here then Steve and Cat are still here...scary thought.

Rudy was a horrible influence on most personnel moves; he had a ridiculous weakness for guys that reminded him of himself (finesse forwards with a perimeter game):
    Matt Bullard
    Pete Chilcutt
    Robert Horry
    Jason Collier
    Dan Langey
    Boki Nachbar
    Mirsad Turkan
    Eddie Griffin
    Mo Taylor
    etc
    (apologies for any/all sp)

Some of the moves turned out great, but too many times this team passed up great prospects to draft Rudy clones that were bust. Aside from the Otis Thorpe and Barkley years, we were ridiculously soft at the PF spot.

Assuming they don't hire someone from the outside, don't be surprised if Dennis Lindsay is groomed for this job. Lindsay has been with the team for a long time now and is the primary coordinator of personnel decisions. He is as involved in the process as CD and JVG.

I could also see Keith Jones moving up from his trainer position into the front office at that point. Jones is considered one of the best player-friendly guys in the league. He knows everybody and he got a big promotion a couple years back to keep him on staff. Missy Leggett actually handles most of the traditional trainer duties (taping ankles, etc) now anyway.

Rudy has said many times he prefers coaching or consulting. He has little interest in sitting in a office, making negotiations and dealing with contracts. I would be SHOCKED if he ever came back in a GM capacity.

IMHO, I believe RT is too loyal of a person to be a GM. GM's have to be able to make decisions for the good of the team, not necessarily the good of the player involved. It is a tough, cut-throat business (like most things) and you have to be able to put your personal feelings aside.

Sports are not like most of our real-world jobs. Generally speaking, the longer you are on a normal job, the better you get at it. In BB, that works for about 5-6 years, and then your abilities begin to dwindle. You can go from "all-star" to "also-ran" in the blink of an eye.

Rudy would hold onto players too long, over-value his people, and try to make it work. Sadly, you can't do all of that and be sucessful in sports at the GM level.

I love RT to death; I truly believe that he is one of the most wonderful, caring, and charismatic people to have ever been involved in the game. Unfortunately, that does not bode too well in the GM capacity.

i think that would make him a good scout because the incentive is to find the best player for the team. as a GM he would start to show loyalties to the player and his duty is to the team.
