It's not fair that the offensive player can drive easily to the basket while the defender has to slide laterally and backwards to try to stop him. The game is not supposed to be fair in terms of offense and defense.
I understood his point very well but disagreed with it. I agree with you there is a good reason to single out flopping. Simple as that.
About time they worked on this rule. Manu and Dirk have gotten more phantom foul calls on them since Stockton and Malone. None more evident then when the Rockets faced Dirk last year in the playoffs. I can't tell you how many things I broke in my house because of the refs buying his crap. Anytime he shoots he automatically either falls back and looks like he broke his back or if he's running through the lane he flails his arms up and yells like they just clotheslined him. There'd be times when he'd be posting up on somebody, shoot a fade-away and fall back and get the foul call even though you could see at least 6-inches of space between Dirk and the defender the whole damn time.Same thing with Manu, though most of his stuff is the flail and yell when he goes through the paint. I hope they do get penalized and maybe even fined for that crap because it can drastically alter games. It's time we got back to letting the defenders defend and stop calling these p***y star treatment phantom calls. Brian
According to the way they call it, you can't slide laterally or backward, or in any direction because any contact is defensive foul (doesn't matter who initiates the contact) unless you plant your feet. And what's worse, even if you plant your feet, there is a good chance that the refs might call against you unless you flop.
It seems to me the idea of giving T’s to floppers is an attempt to punish players for being dishonest. My point about who did what and who lied is just that. These are acts of dishonesty and few would argue that the game should police and punish those who commit these actions. Don’t get me wrong. I hate floppers. If a flop is recognized by a ref it should be a no call. A penalty should only be called if the flopper trips up or slows the driving player. The flopper is in no position to defend. He has taken himself out of the play by falling. The injustice is done when the offensive player is called for a foul. If the refs can recognize the flop there is no need for a tech on the flopper. Let the play go on watch the flopper fall. It’s enough for me to see Nowitski fall on his butt and look pathetically at the refs for the help that will never come.
Are you kidding? I once saw the Mailman fall down after setting a blind pick on Bryce Drew or Brent Price (I forget who) but he actually fell back about 2-3 steps before crashing to the floor. The refs actually called a foul on us. It was quite ridiculous. Just ask Hakeem, I remember how he said he couldn't stand playing the Jazz cause they flopped so much, and that it really wasn't basketball. I'm glad the league is FINALLY doing somethign about this.
