Ouch. I'd say that wouldn't be covered under warranty, either. They'll probably say you dropped the thing/abused it. Oh well, it was still wrong for the salesperson to tell you otherwise.

RocketFan, if you want to have some fun with this, go to Circuity City over the weekend during a very busy time. Go over the whole thing again, and get the manager to tell you again that he can't stand behind the words of his salesperson.

Once he does this, announce to the entire store something like this: "Hey everyone, if you're thinking of buying something here, don't listen to the salespeople, because the store won't stand behind anything they say. You can ask the manager that's standing right here next to me, and he'll confirm that the salespeople don't represent the store's actual policies."

Say it really loud, of course, to make sure everyone hears you. At that point, the manager is probably either going to take care of your problem or kick you out of the store. However, your point will be made.

Ok well thanks guys for the help Overall they are a good company that I have had good experience with in the past and that worker no longer works there so I do understand their position. Maybe it was miscommunication or whatever I'd like to think that it was miscommunication involved and I wasn't purposely misinformed.

So thanks guys and I'll guess we'll leave it at this for now. I'll talk to them some more and I'm sure that if I talk to the right people I can get something worked out. Thanks for the help guys. Just wanted to express some frustration, but also say that overall the company seems like a good company

Anyways I think I'll just leave this situation at that for now. Try to work something out one more time..

I think I missed the details somewhere, but as a general rule, only two problems that are un-fixable are if there is a big crack in the screen and blue-black goo is oozing out (for obvious reasons). And for the most part, If you have solid vertical lines that come and go with pressure (this generaly means that some of the mineature soddered connections along the edges have come undone. I'm sure that someone could fix this but it would require incredibly specialised eq.)

Blanking screens, cracked backlites, no video, and many other severe problems are actualy easily remidied with an #7 torx screwdriver and patience.

BTW, I used to know this really anoying guy who every time he saw a Compaq said, "If you buy a Compaq you'll be Presario". It made me want to kick his @$$ after a while, but the general rule holds true: Compaq's home equipment is most likely total crap. If you buy Compaq get the business class eq: Armadas, Deskpros, etc. They are mostly fairly good, and at least are never total junk.

I once had a 10-disc CD changer in the trunk of my old Camry. The Camry got into a wreck, but the CD changer worked. They had to do some body-work near the trunk, though. They said "it's fixed". I started driving around town when it started raining. They lied. Water had run into my trunk because they didn't seal something off correctly. It wrecked my CD Changer. I decided to take it to Circuit City and said "hey, my CD changer isn't working and I have that ESP thingy". They had a tech take it out, look at it, and he said "Cool... I'll ring up another one". They replaced it no questions asked. They've been pretty good about those things so far.
