People have a right to be all those things.

I have the right to criticize them for being that way.

    Can't have it both ways.

If you can't take it or don't like it, don't tune her in, but FOR GOD's SAKE, don't compromise her right of free speech.

First off, who here is compromising her right of free speech? Maybe this is one of those We often hear JUST WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR. things on your part? From what I can tell, they are simply criticizing her. As you said earlier,

She deserves criticism but not protest.

By the way, is protest not a form of free speech? Why shouldn't people exercise their right to free speech by protesting, if it means that much to them?

    You libocrats

Also, thank you again for demonstrating an inability to post an argument without throwing in snide insults. I hope this is something I don't learn when I mature and learn to be a good conservative. [IMG]

Surprisingly, this is not the first time I've been accused of being a liberal Democrat. When I was in college, I worked on the college newspaper, and even though I wrote some of the most conservative editorials that had ever appeared in that paper, the College Republicans said that I was obviously a liberal Democrat because 1. We didn't send a photographer to cover some stupid event they were having (we did send a reporter, though), and 2. I accidentally misspelled Republican in the paper one time (I wrote "Rebulican") and since it was a very last minute thing, the editor didn't catch it.

So, you don't like receiving cheap shots, but you don't mind dishing them out, eh?

And you wonder why I don't (and never will) believe a single thing you post on this BBS?

    You are absolutely pitiful.

mrpaige, I was hoping that you'd like that label. rimbaud, rm95, shanna, haven and I are going down to the store to check out some new hotpants and jelly shoes. Feel free to join us. Later on outlaw's joining us at one of the elementary schools, where we'll do some gay recruiting until about 3. Maybe around 8 or 9, we can head back to heyp's bbq pit and burn a few flags. BTW, heyp and Shanna are a bit more moderate than the rest of us, so don't vibe their mulletts.

Oddly enough, just from reading some of his posts on the save_our_rockets forum, I thought mrpaige was a liberal... couldn't really say why though. I was shocked when he took sides against me in a stricly partisan debate. Of course, he seems moderate...

I'm a man of many contrasts. [IMG]

Just reading the SOR posts, one might think I was a liberal because I took several opportunities to attack people like Gary Polland and Paul Bettencourt (and the Hotze guys. I think I might have said bad things about them) and Judge Eckels for that matter. But that was based solely on their opposition to the arena. As a member of the Biggest Ball of String Coalition, I like shiny sports arenas and things of that nature. It's not a partisan thing.

Plus, I've always felt that Gary Polland is more about playing politics than advocating a conservative opinion on things (and I also don't care for all the social conservatism. I'm certainly more liberal most of the time than people like Gary Polland when it comes to things like homosexuality or other social-type things). People like Jack Kemp or even P.J. O'Rourke adhere closer to my usual line of political thinking.

Rocketman95: Let me put this in terms you might understand. If I tell my friend that Cuttino blew up for 43 points, but he really and truly only scored 29 points, was I WRONG or did I LIE? There is a difference. Maybe your sidekick ahpook can clear that up for you. Surely shanna can help, too.

You and I agree on one thing: you have a right to feel any damn way you want about Dr. Laura, but you owe it to HER and TO US to, at least, characterize her position accurately before you try to defame her. Isn't that fair?

In the title of your thread here you call her an idiot, for God's sake, when you don't know jack about her point of view other than a years-old recollection of a brief radio encounter and a current news story.

Your surmisal of what you heard part of some years ago is 180 degrees wrong and inconsistent with her position. I've listened to, say 1000 times as much of Dr. Laura as you have, yet you insist that your vague recollection is more accurate and knowledgeable. I invited you to go to her website and find things substantive that would back up your description of her beliefs. You haven't done that. You elephantine memory makes you a good candidate to be a Republican. Think about it.

You (and ahpook) accuse me of calling you a liar when I simply said you had a wrong understanding of something. I call you a libocrat (ruffling shanna's feathers, too) and you consider that an insult? Which do you not like-- the lib(eral) part or the (Dem)ocrat part? Which contains the real insult in your mind?

shanna: I said that she didn't deserve protest. I know that protest is a form of free speech-- one form that is often abused. I don't see where this opinion of hers deserves a protest of any kind. Most protests are designed to bring about change or dislodgement of something. This akward remark of hers does not merit that kind of hounding. That's why I cited the PC Patrol.

    River,

I, too, see what you are saying and am not attacking you.

I just find it greatly disturbing that a perfectly thinking human being would be told that he cannot attend a family wedding on the very small (what, 5%) chance that he might have a major tick attack.

I further think that it is irresponsible to promote or condeone such behavior.

And, yes, I can relate. No only have I been in similar situations with disabled people, but during my own wedding there were kids running around and screaming. Of course, it was no big deal. My drunk aunt also jumped in our car right before we were off to the hotel and would not get out.

One of my wife's college friends stuck a dollar bill in her cleavage during the money dance...it is in pictures. In the end it was all fun.

I guess I am just being PC. Ha ha!

    Hey Rich,

Can I be a Libocrat even if I have never voted Democrat?

    I certainly hope so.

Isn't it possible that both you and RM95 are correct?

He seemed to be greatly disturbed by what he heard, so I am sure he would remember it. I know I remember things that I hear, especially if they are particularly noteworthy.

I don't listen to self help stuff, so I don't know what she is like, but maybe she has changed or doesn't always give the same advice for similar situations? I dunno.

Why don't you just say that you have never heard her say that, instead of saying he can't remember?

Lol! Because of you, everyone at work thinks I'm a drug addict! I started giggling uncontrollably once I got to the gay recruiting bit, ran to the bathroom, and laughed so hard everyone heard me outside. Got back to my desk, burst out laughing again. Since everyone now thinks I'm stoned anyway, I guess you could add "drop by hempfest, and smoke a few ounces of pot" to your list [IMG].

Rimbaud: I listened to Dr. Laura weekly for about 5 years. I stopped about 6 months ago because I find her somewhat irritating and I found a new show that I like more.

She has NEVER asked any woman to stay with a man who beats her, but that's what RM95 remembers her saying along with some other unbelievable conditions he suggests that Dr. Laura thinks women should live with just for the sake of the children. That is total pooh.

Why should I let that slide? It is a total misrepresentation of her position. I won't do that-- even for RM95!

Just because he or you or I think something doesn't make it true or accurate. Someone go find it on her website if that represents her position.

She has not changed that much in all the years I've been listening to her. I believe that she has always been fairly conservative. Her conversion to orthodox Judaism occurred at the front end of the time that I was listening to her.

I've got ~5 years of listening to Dr. Laura while he has one brief encounter some years ago, tell me (without playing favorites because I know I'll lose) which of us is more likely to accurately depict Dr. Laura's point of view?

If you don't believe me, go find it on the website. What is it with this idea that anything goes, even if it's dead wrong?

After reading this, I have to back Rocketman95 up here. Richrocket... the things she's on record as saying here are pretty awful:

I know you might not like the website. But they have direct quotes and references.

    A. I don't mind the libocrat title. I didn't say anything against it. I'll be a proud liberal until I die.

    B. It's not a vague recollection. I remember the day I heard these comments from her precisely. It's hard to forget the day you hear such asinine comments. I can tell you where exactly I was each time I heard them. The beating one came when I was on my way to the Railroad Commission to pick up an attorney. The cheating one came when I was driving to Bergstrom Airport (which come to think of it was sooner than 3 years ago) to pick up a package). I know what I heard, my recollection of it is not wrong. You telling me I am is.
