Just curious what the rest of you think about Casserly going into the offseason. Keep him or let him go.
When I come to think about it, remember when Carrol Dawson was a buffon and made terrible decisions during the Rudy days, and now he is suddenly a GM of the year canidate and a bonefide genuis when JVG came along. This just goes to tell you that the GM can be smart or stupid just as much as the coach. However, I still believe that Casserly and Capers must go ASAP, they have managed to completly sink the ship in four years. I think the rebuilding process will be so difficult now. Thank God they have cap space (don't they?) or they would have been in real big trouble.
Do you realy think Ragone is ready to start, I sure know Banks can't be a full time starter and drafting another QB high w/o addressing the OL would put us right back in the same situation.
Casserly was on with the morning crew today explaining how all the major moves he's/or any gm has made, have to have the consent/approval/want of the coaching staff. It spun faster than Fox news. And, unfortunately for Dom, he didn't really try hiding it too well. If for nothing else than selling out your teammates (meaning coaching staff) and not accepting responsiblity, fire his ass.
Capers has piloted his second expansion team in to the ground. This time without making the playoffs. He's probably never going to get a head coaching job again. He'll find a coordinator job somewhere most likely. Casserly has had horrible drafts and the Texans are almost devoid of talent. Yet he's managed to give the Texans one of the highest payrolls in the league. On his resume, his list of work experience will probably end with the Redskins.
When Charlie first got here, I thought he was great. Picking Carr instead of Harrington, finding DD, drafting AJ, drafting Duante, these were all great moves IMO. But man, has he had some stinkers. Resigining Chester Pitts, trading for and drafting Babin, letting Foley go to San Diego and become a star, letting Sharper go, bringing in Buchanon, not doing a THING this offseason to fix the O-line and protect his franchise QB, the list goes on and on. Get him outta here.
^ Agreed, Casserly has had his moments, both good and bad. But we are in are just wwwwaaayyyy too bad right now to keep him on board, both Casserly and Capers must go.
My hierarchy of blame: 1. Casserly (for the roster woes) 2. Capers (partially for roster woes, mostly for stubborness to adjust to roster) 3. Carr (for lack of personal improvment over the years) 4. That's funny. So he wants more control? I think that just emphasizes how much everyone in the organization needs to be booted out. Get rid of Cassie, Capers, scouts, assistant coaches, and all the other cronies. Too bad it looks like the best coach that'll be available in the offseason will be Mike Martz, and I doubt he'd be looking to take on the Texans, if he's even healthy.
Mike Martz is the absolute worst coach in the league. He took a dominant Super Bowl winning team and turned them into jelly. I'd rather have Dom. Casserly made one calculated gamble that backfired on him, the Tony Boselli draft. If Boselli would have been able to play, we would be fighting for playoff position today. He was the best tackle in football right before his injury. Casserly and the Texans organization gambled that he could come back and he didn't. If Casserly sticks around, I would expect him to pull some major OL pieces out of this next draft and I would expect us to be highly competitive, playoff bound, next year. They'll be saying the same things about him that they are saying about CD now. Of course, the naysayers say the TMac trade fell in CD's lap, and Yao fell in CD's lap. But look at the ancillary moves that CD made once he got his main weapons. Casserly is a good gm. He proved it in Washington. We get a dominant left tackle (the most important position on the field) and Casserly will be able to make the moves to get the parts around that player, Carr, and AJ. Mathis could very well be the piece opposite AJ at the wideout. Gafney is a decent posession receiver. All of our passer and pass catcher stats will go up significantly with a left tackle. It is a domino effect. Then the defense can start playing in your face without taking the huge gambles they are taking now. One dominant left tackle makes us competitive.
