mhan, when an offensive player hooks the player defending them, it is almost never called in the NBA. Kobe was hooking just as much as Steve Smith, and others. I don't think we should even discuss that. It should be called, but rarely is.

On your illegal "D" argument....Shaq was illegal fairly frequently. He did not float in the illegal zone for long periods, but he definitely was below the free throw line several times on a per game basis when Sabonis was outside the arc. So, if he got "at least 6" called on him, I would say he made out like a bandit. Pippen was illegal often as well, but therein lies the old "veteran" clause. Neither of the two got the illegal d calls they should have. A wash in my opinion.

The officials called a decent game until the waning moments, then it seemed that they couldn't find their whistles on the Laker defensive end. I don't think there is any conspiracy, but that was some poor officiating in a huge game 7 to get to the finals. It was a farce.

    Cat,

That is where your theory is flawed.

I saw the Knick series entirely and rather closely and in every game but Game 2 and Game 6, the Heat went to the foul line at least 10 times per game more than the Knicks.

All they had to do was hit the free-throws and the Knicks would of been eliminated much earlier. Look it up in the box score, my man.

Pippen was never illegal in that series. He was playing a strong side zone, which is now legal.

Almu, it's not the amount of calls. It's when the calls were made, and in the 4th quarter the big market teams got the advantage.

    TheFreak,
If you go back and watch the games closely, Pippen was illegal several times. I know strong side zoning is different....but on some occasions he was guarding Shaq low before he got the ball. You cannot double team a player before he receives the ball. That is not strong side zone d. Some were legal, some were not. But either way, both of them could have been whistled for illegal d more than was called.

Calls or no calls, the Pippy and the Blazers choked away a 16 point lead.

You can double-team someone without the ball, as long as the ball is on that side of the court. That is the rule change that was introduced this year. Pippen doubling Shaq when he doesn't have the ball is perfectly legal, as long as the ball is on that side of the court. Last year, that would not have been legal. If Pippen's man has the ball, Pippen can sit in Shaq's lap if he wants, and there should be no whistle.

Understood. Thanks theFreak. I do however, still contend that even on the weak side he was cheating. But I suppose we have hashed over this subject so much now it is getting tiresome.

Pimp, you are entirely correct. They did choke it away. That was 12 minutes of the most painful basketball I have watched in a long time.

The 2 phantom calls on Sabonis for his 4th and 5th foul turned the game and the obvious foul on Steve Smith ended any chance of the Blazers tieing the game. Shaq took that foul on Steve on purpose to stop an easy lay up that call should be made 1000 out of 1000 times. The only way that call should not be made is if the all 3 refs trip and are down and cant see the play. The Lakers have getting the preferential treatment all year long and it should not be like that. It really makes it unfair for other players because they cant get a feel of how the games are gonna be called when the refs make special calls from game to game depending on what is more favorable for the Lakers. All the Lakers have to do is play good not great because they get all the calls and that carries them to wins. If the Lakers play great they win big because of the favortism for them and even when the lakers play bad they still get the calls to keep them close.
