Enron to host 2004 All-Star Game

First time in Houston since 1986

Major League Baseball's All-Star Game is coming back to Houston.

Team owners, at a meeting today in Pittsburgh, awarded the 2004 Midsummer Classic to the Houston Astros and Enron Field.

Enron Field was selected over Pittsburgh's PNC Park, San Francisco's Pacific Bell Park, Arizona's Bank One Ballpark and Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park.

The game will be the first for Enron Field, which opened last season, and the third to be held in the city of Houston. The All-Star Game was played at the Astrodome in 1968 and again in 1986. This year's All-Star Game will be played at Seattle's SAFECO Field on July 10. Next year's All-Star Game will be played at Miller Park in Milwaukee and the 2003 game will be played at Chicago's Comiskey Park. An American League team is host during odd-numbered years and NL teams host the event during even-numbered years.

Houston will become only the second city to host an All-Star Game and a Super Bowl in the same calendar year, joining Atlanta, which hosted both events last year. Reliant Stadium, under construction adjacent to the Astrodome and the future home of the Houston Texans of the National Football League, is the site of the 2004 Super Bowl.

    Congrats

hmmm.....how did Miller Park get it ahead of the Stros ?

If the Rockets can put it together in 04, that would be awesome. Will the new arena be finished by then ?

Rockets probably won't get the 2004 All Star Game, but 2006 is a possibility.

The interesting thing is that the new arena opens in September 2003, meaning the Super Bowl will occur during the first season the Rockets play in the new arena and the All Star game will come just after the first season has ended.

That will be one helluva year! [IMG]

Or if we host the NBA finals. [IMG] I think Minnesota had the world series, nba all star game, and super bowl one year.

Does anyone know the year the olympic committee announces the location of the 2012 Olympics. If it's in 2004 that means.

    1. Houston Superbowl
    2. Houston MLB All-Star Game
    3. Announcement of Houston Olympics
    4. Houston NBA Finals

we're not getting the olympics. I'd be shocked if we did. seems more likely that another country entirely will end up with the summer 2012 games.

Minnesota hosted the U.S. Open in 1991, the World Series in 1991, the Super Bowl in 1992 and the Final Four in 1992.

I'm really looking forward to the Super Bowl. I think that will be the biggest (attention wise) sporting event in this city's history.
