Flame me if you want, but if someone was going to beat us, it may as well have been the Chisox. I dislike the Yankees and Red Sox almost as much as I like the Astros. If we had lost to either of them, I would be hurting really bad right now. My brother lives in near southside Chicago and is a longtime Sox fan. If many of us here knew more about the Sox franchise and the sports dynamics in Chicago, we wouldn't feel so bad. If you exclude this particular season (going from 15-30 to the World Series), their story over the last 20 years is actually better than ours. To the longtime, longsuffering, legitimate Sox fans, enjoy your championship. Nobody gave you any thought at the beginning of the season. Nobody took you seriously until you beat the Angels. This makes up for all the years of torture by the Twins, the 1994 strike and the late season fades. Tell the bandwagon fans to jump in the lake and rub it in the Cubs fans all winter long. (The above sentiment provided by my brother, who is one happy camper right now). Clutchfans, it's a shame the Stros didn't peform better in the Series, but they still had the best year in franchise history. I'm sad for them but happy for the White Sox.
No doubt, the best team won, but it should have been a six or seven game series. Astro pitching faltered, except Backe and Pettitte, the hitting was anemic, and ALL the intangibles seem to go the White Sox's way. But the best team in baseball, this year at least are now world champions. Congradulations and we have this weather year round!
Congrats to the White Sox, if nothing else, it's nice to stick it to the Cubs Seriously though, they were clutch, aggressive, scrappy, determined, and hungry, and therefore they won. So I tip my hat off to them and if another team had to win it against us, I am glad it's teams I have no animosity towards like the White Sox (I would've been ok with the Angels as well, but no one else). It's a learning experience, and as Dream once said, "We go from here".
These guys were just steamrolling through teams. Basically the Florida Marlins of a few years back..nothing was going to stop them....we hit them and went up in 2 games and they fought right back...all cylinders were hitting and i don't think there was a team in the league that was honestly going to stop them.
cheers to all the very good Astros fans. As some of you may know I am a bit of a Rockets fan but I'm a southsider, to the core. The Bulls were **** so they garnered no attention in my formative years. However, the South Side Hitmen were incredible, collapsing late in 77 to the Royals but I was hooked then. When we moved to Houston in 81 I had no allegiances besides Notre Dame and the White Sox, it's a South Side Irish thing I suppose. Everything else was up for grabs. I was an Oilers fan and I suffered with you all through some indescribably horrible losses. I was an Astros fan in 86 and I suffered with you there. Yet my eyes were always on the prize, being a White Sox World Series championship and Notre Dame winning a...... Fiesta Bowl? I'm not here to talk about myself. Houston fans are wonderful sports fans and regardless of what other cities might say they are absolutely as loyal and diehard as any other found in the nation. They always have been and always will be. I am so completely with you when it comes to the Rockets. While I and Sox fans celebrate decades upon decades of frustration being removed, it is with an unconvinced heart I do so. Astros fans, like any other Houston fan, are tortured unfairly. That I cannot celebrate that the Astros reached the World Series and acquitted themselves as champions in their own right is a downright shame. Any, any, any other AL team and I was with you pitch for pitch. However, because I live in Beverly on the South Side, two blocks from the house in which I was raised, I am and remain a White Sox fan. A damn ****ing shame I couldn't root for the Astros in this Series.
It's OK keeley, White Sox are classy organization and classy team that very much earned it, and it couldn't happen to a better team IMO. Celebrate keeley, give our congrats to CWS fans, and please, please stick it to the Cubs fans wherever you go (that alone would be worth the CWS winning the WS)
Godd comparo, that's what came to my mind as well. It seemed like both teams had that 'destiny' thing going for them, and something had to give.
Better than the Marlins. The only time they trailed was 0-1 in the Angels series. An 11-1 playoff run is one for the ages. We played them tougher than anyone else. Keeley, there is no shame. If the Rockets play the Pacers in the NBA Finals, I would be in the exact same position. You can't change who you are and where you come from. Some things are put inside you early and never change. Enjoy the championship with no reservations.
Yep, they out-hustled us. No qualms about tipping my hats to this team. Their fans, however...no class.
I really thought were we in this thing all they way, until that 5 run inning off Oswalt. I was like, man it's just their time.
The White Sox are greater than the Astros. They deserve it. I didn't believe they were better during the series. I thought the Astros were just choking a bit with their hitting. But, great pitching makes for bad hitting. It's not all just a fluke that they did the little things to win the game. Their play reminded me of some of the things the Astros did to get to the World Series. However, we ran up against a team that does those things better than we could do apparently. I'm disappointed we were swept. However, every game was close and could have gone either way. It's not like we were blown out and it was a total mismatch. The great teams find ways to win those games. The problems that plagued the Astros this series were a combination of poor play and great play by the White Sox. The untimely hitting by the Astros reminded me of so many of the bad games we had this season during our 15-30 stretch and shut-out/one run losses. It's like we came full circle. The pitching wasn't even the problem. The lack of offense caught up with us in the end. Congrats, White Sox...and congrats, Astros, for taking us where we have never been and may not get back to for a long time. It was a hell of a ride. I'm just sad it ended without us getting a win. Everyone talks about how dominant the White Sox were this post-season. Yes, they were dominant but they did not dominate the Astros. We fought them tooth and nail the whole way. Great teams make their own luck and the White Sox made it while the Astros did not. I think the Astros should be getting a little more credit in the media for what they have done this whole season. Obviously, their overshadowed by the White Sox. But, we did some remarkable things and still made this a great series. We have nothing to hang our heads about. I am so proud of this team and I hope we get another shot next year. Surf
