I could careless if alot of people think Everett has good D but I dont see it. It just seems OK to me but with the way he swings!! man he needs to GO!!

What's the point of having someone out there that's almost like an auto out everytime he comes up to bat. We're LOSING MORE RUNS WITH HIS BAT than we's SAVING WITH HIS GLOVE!

Enough said. Without half of the plays he made during the year and the playoffs we wouldn't be here.

I agree. I would rather have Rapheal Furcal who is a free agent.
This guy gets on base and is always a threat to steal.

Of all the dumb ass threads I've seen this week, this one takes the trophy.

I'm glad you're not in charge of any of the pro sports franchises here in Houston. You're ready to get rid of a new player each week.

I figured the rats would be jumping off the ship.

I've said since early in the year we need to look at replacing Everett because of his bat. But after some of the defensive plays he's made in the playoffs I'm not so sure. But next year, we need another bat somewhere in the lineup and I'd keep Lane over Everett. I don't know if we can bring back both Everett and Ausmus as starters.

    Actually,

    Everett's defense is overated.

Sure he turned a few hard DPs and made some diving stops, but he is 0-14 with runners in scoring position.

How can we be certain that another SS would not make those plays?

I would prefer an average short stop that can hit more than Karen Carpenter's weight.

Everett has great hands, it baffles me why he can't hit.

    This is our weakest link.

I have the feeling that we will be seeing Everett traded in the offseason so we can put Burke in the infield.

It's too bad, because he seems like a really nice guy, but them's the breaks.

    Actually,

    That statement was dead wrong.

People make the same error with Ausmus--they *underrate* defense, and point to average hitting and scream, "HE'S COSTING THE TEAM WINS!!!!11!11 HE"S GOT TO GO NOWWWWW!!!!!!!11"

Everett is one of the top defensive players in the major leagues. There is a concept called range with which one should become familiar before dismissing a player's defensive value and greatness.

    a) Don't dismiss those DP's: all of them saved you at least one run, and one of them won you a postseason game.
    b) The Astros are hitting below .200 WRISP, so methinks it's more than just Everett.

Watch a few. Furcal might make them, and I wouldn't mind having him if the price were right. But we don't have to wonder who *might* have made those plays, we have the defensive guy who *did* make them.

Evidently, the Astros disagree. And, fwiw, so do I.

Where do you put Burke? He is not a shortstop, they were talking about that in the Cards series, he doesn't have the arm.

Drives me nuts to read this....he doesn't have a CANNON for an arm, and the Astros rated him as an AVERAGE SS....in the minors before converting him to 2B.

Look at Eckstein, does he have the arm? Come on....that is such an overated stat....

Let's give Burke a shot at SS in Spring training, what can it hurt?

Of course, I would rather have Furcal......maybe Bags will retire, Drayton can save some money by having insurance pay for it, and we can go get Furcal.

    Hey, a man can dream...

yeah, I know...I just think some teams give more of a shot then others.

The Cardinals for example, you think LaRussa cares if Eckstein has a crappy arm? Nope.

If a guy makes 95% of the plays, and is a major upgrade offensively, I would prefer that over someone like Everett.

I agree.. I like Everett but we need to upgrade our SS position.

    Lane
    Lance
    Burke
    Ensberg
    Willy T

are the only hitters that are in our future. Furcal would sure look nice at SS.

I also do not understand the no arm argument. He can play the outfield where the throws are longer but he cant play shortstop? I think it is definitely worth a shot. I like Everett and I'm sure he is a great guy but we cannot have two outs at the end of the lineup with him and Ausmus. I wouldnt mind at least trying Burke at SS. He has done well every well else we have put him.

I would also like to see an upgrage in the outfield. I have no idea who so I wont even speculate.

Adam is 0 for 14 with RISP in the playoffs. That's demoralizing. Even Ozzie Smith would have trouble balancing that out with his glove.
