I tell you this past weekend was unbelievable. Thankfully, neither my nor my wife's family suffered any major losses. My sister's car was totally submerged in her parking garage at work, but that was the worst loss for us. Lucky for her she was planning on buying a new car this week anyway. My wife had to sleep at her job, the Pappadeaux on 290, overnight, but made it home okay the next morning. I tried to drive home around midnight after work near I-45 and Richey. I had been working all evening, so I had no idea how bad it was. I was giving a friend a ride home, and I have no A/C in my car so the windows were all fogged up. I never saw the water. We hit about two feet of water (which comes halfway up the doors on my 88' Prelude). But, somehow we made it across the street. I saw a small parking area in front of some apartments so I decided to try and make it by driving on the sidewalk. Well, I got within SIX feet of the damn parking lot (after driving about 75 ft down the sidewalk), but then we hit a flower bed and sunk into the mud. We worked for 2 hours in the rain trying to dig my car out, but finally gave up. We walked 5 or 6 blocks to my friends apartment. Thankfully, the water didn't rise much more and my car was spared. After falling asleep around 4:30am, my wife called and woke us up at 7:45am. I then put back on my soaking wet shoes and walked back to work. I got there at 8:00am and called family members to check up on them. I waited until 1:30pm there at my job in pajamas and wet shoes for my wife to get there with a tow rope and a friend of ours with his four-wheel drive jeep. I've emailed all my friends asking how they came out, and so far all who've responded were pretty much okay. I sure hope everyone here was able to be safe and sound. ------------------ DREAMer's Rocket Page
Other than a small roof leak we didn't know we had, we're fine. We have a house in The Heights and they don't call it The Heights for nothing... unless you live on Heights Blvd near I-10... They had some flooding there... My family and friends were fine. I only heard of friends of friends who had serious problems. hunkering down for a hurricane, rH ------------------ visit: The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love! visit: groovehouse.org
Ditto! My grandparents who live only 8 blocks to my west had 18" of water in their house. They've been there since 1940 and had never flooded. Other than that, my family escaped. My mom, who lives about a 1/2 block from Greens Bayou was one of only two houses in her entire neighborhood that didn't get water in them. We were on vacation in Kansas when it hit, and upon returning this past Saturday night, there was nothing . . . I was expecting our little bayou out here in Katy to be high, but it was at normal levels. Things looked like they do after a light rain. Out of curiosity, I'm interested in volunteering somewhere to help people in the flood, but I'm not sure where to go/what to do. I know how to donate money and items, but what about donating time? I'd be glad to do that. Anyone have any ideas? ------------------ blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
My house was untouched, despite being "below" the Heights. ------------------ I have just realized that the stakes are myself I have no other ransom money, nothing to break or barter but my life my spirit measured out, in bits, spread over the roulette table, I recoup what I can nothing else to shove under the nose of the maƮtre de jeu nothing to thrust out the window, no white flag this flesh all I have to offer, to make the play with this immediate head, what it comes up with, my move as we slither over this go board, stepping always (we hope) between the lines

Well, no damage at my house (Westbury) or my folks' place (Meyerland). I did have a lake in my backyard that I was thinking of stocking with bass and catfish, but it dried up pretty quickly. The great news is that there is no electricity in my office building (in the Medical Center), so I was off work today and will be again tomorrow. The earliest I can go back to work is Wednesday. Need to donate time as well. good thing to do and also I'm going to be a high school senior so it would look good on applications I still think that sending out email forms on saveourrockets site should count but I doubt ivy league schools are gonna accept that as community service? ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"

Well, it's Thursday, and I'm finally back at work. There are approximately 3-400 pieces of furniture, mostly from the bank on the ground floor of my building, that are sitting in the middle of the parking lot drying out. Unfortunately, although my building has electricity again, we have no network. Therefore, I am investigating restaurants to see where my co-workers and I are to spend our inevitable three hour lunch. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
I had no problems with the flood, but I've got work stories. An apartment building we own lost 500 of about 1,000 units to flooding! A coworker who left recently on maternity leave started having contractions Saturday night. Her husband loaded her in his truck and they drove for the hospital. But the truck quit on them and they had to get out. Her contractions were about 6 minutes apart. They very soon had to swim. They swam down a long drainage ditch, reached higher ground and waded waist-deep a good distance longer before reaching higher ground. From there, they walked to a fire department. There, they were loaded on to a dump truck and driven to a nearby hospital. A 3 hour trip from house to hospital. Then, she had 3 more hours of labor before giving birth. The baby is fine. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
