Seriously, there is no reason not to bench him. His whole offense is his jumper, so if that's gone, he's half a player. But what about his d? I know he gets so much praise for his d, and he is good at it, but he's no lockdown defender, and even if he was that doesn't make up for offensive ineptitude. Loyalty? You stay loyal to those who produce. Not to guys at the last stage of their career with knees that are failing them. This guy is likely gone next year(or on the fringe of the rotation for a minimum contract at least) so there's no harm going to the next in line. And this is from someone who has been a fan of Wesley since his days in Boston.
OK, after last night's debacle against the Jizzlies, I'll say, Yes, Wesley's shooting is a concern. Granted, other players sucked last night, but Wesley's on a roll. As in, rolling downhill with a 90-mile-per-hour wind at his back etc etc.
Wesley's shooting is not a concern for me because there are other players to take his time if he continues to suck it up. Anderson & Barry are more than capable of playing the SG and Wesley can ride the pine. Also there is Head and maybe even Sura if he comes back. The only worry should be backup PG.
After last night, it appears that it is time to take "Ole Betsy" down off the wall, take Wesley out behind the barn, and put him down humanely. He is clearly not recovering his shot and Bullard spent all night saying that your shot comes from your legs and DW doesn't have any left. Maybe his shot will come back, but can we wait?
Preseason Numbers David Wesley 3PM-A = 1-14 FGM-A = 8-37 (including layups!!!!) Luther Head 3PM-A = 8-16 FGM-A = 15-32 Steals = 7 Opposing teams are starting to pick up on this. Memphis was content on letting Wesley shoot wide open shots. It's reminiscent of the way teams played Bowen last year. With respect to Head, one can make the argument that his numbers are the result of inferior 4th quarter opponents. That's JVG's argument. That said, making shots against inferior defenders is still better than bricking wide open shots.
CD should work to get him to another team. yao-deke stro-jho tmac-bowen da-barry alston-head without wesley we still have 10 players that can get minutes. this rotation could either use a better defensive 2 or a better backup 1. i say get them both with a trade of: wesley and moochie for hudson and hassell minni gets rid of 2 long term contracts. we add 2 nice young players who wil fit. if the wolves are not in the playoff hunt in february i would expect them to want to dump some salary.
i been telling you guys for the longest that david wesley sucks ass. remember in the dallas series when he kept missing easy baskets? (open 3s, easy lay-ups), this dude doesnt have a clue how to get out of his slump, and needs to go to some retirement home. even though derek anderson's hops appear to be gone, he is still alot better than what wesley can contribute (which is nothing).
i think wesley is pissed... with the arrival of derek anderson he knew his minutes will go down. i think he is missing shots in purpose
So let me get this straight. He is missing his shots on purpose so that he gets lesser minutes because he is pissed off at the arrival of Derek Anderson because he knows he will get less minutes? Brilliant!
What patience, he hasn't done anything since he's been here. I'd love for him to hit a high percentage. But he hasn't. He's not getting it done. He's a bench player now. Time has come and gone. We need a shooter. and the truth is you can get someone cheap to do that. Luther is probably the perfect fit as he has what appears to be a decent look stroke.
Why can't Head take Wesley's place, didn't he play the 2 at Illini? And the way Head has been playing he's really earning his playing time. Head reminds me of a non-showboating Catino Mobley.
Every game I've watched, I just don't think he's big and strong enough to guard 2's in the NBA yet. He definitely has the quickness though. He looks quick enough to guard 1's and has great anticipation and hands. I am impressed with his game so far.
While Wesley is 2-17 from 3pt land, Alston is only 3-14. Alston needs to get it going as well. We don't have an alternative at the PG like we do at SG.
from Chron.com ROCKETS SUMMARY Too much thinking David Wesley's slump was dragging on. He missed his first four shots on Sunday to fall to 8-of-41 in the preseason before he finished a pair of drives with slick passes that led to layups. He came up with a steal and headed back up court and drained the sort of jumper he had been clanging. He followed that with another and another. "It might have been coincidence," Wesley said. "I do think each game I feel a little better. I'm getting into a defensive stance better. The more you're into the game, the more you can expect good things to happen. "I've been aiming, thinking, thinking too much. A lot of times I'm thinking, got to bend, got to do this, got to do that, instead of just going out and shooting the shot. Tonight, the last few shots I shot I just shot them. I thought, just let them go. Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy did not seem too concerned with Wesley's shooting. More to the point, he said Wesley should not be. "Right now, its not a revelation that he's struggled mightily to put the ball in the basket," Van Gundy said. "But he can do so many things to help us win even on those nights that he doesn't shoot well. The more he focuses on his shooting, the more it saps his energy, because frustration sets in. What I love about him is he's a tenacious competitor and very unselfish. He shouldn't worry about the shot."
We now know that it really is a concern when he doesn't score and how much we are better when his shots are going in by the result of the game against the Jazz. I do hope that this time, his shots do keep coming in. We can't afford him to be playing one-dimensional (defense only), we already have Bowen and Deke doing that
