That's pure crap in my book. The Sox got their home field advantage with frigid temperatures and freakin rain. That roof closed is our home field advantage, but no, MLB wants it open so it looks pretty on TV...well I'm sorry MLB and I'm sorry Fox, the freakin Astros are trying to win a pennant here.
Exactly, this is all about money and if aesthtically it looks better on TV with it open, MLB is going to want it open. The World Series is a TV event, that brings in the bucks so that is the way it is. The Astros were in position to win in an open roof stadium, so they shouldn't have a problem with winning at home, roof open or closed.
Maybe the MLB is on our side? I think they're trying to tell the Astros to raise the roof....... yea! *raises roof*
Well, they did say if the weather is nice...Maybe tropical storm Beta will form in the Gulf tonight and zoom in on Houston tomorrow.
It is a night game, right? How much freakin' better can a ball field look at night? IMHO, 90% of the camera angles wouldn't differ at all. What crap!
This is farking BS not because I care or because I think it will make a difference in the game but what the hell does MLB have a say in what we do with our roof. All-Star game fine, yessir masta whatevers you say but we'll play the real games how we want to play them and fark off if you don't like it. complete and total bullstuff
The commish does have a point though. Why did we build a retractable roof on Minute Maid (and Reliant) if we never open it, even on perfect days. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory/3412469 MLB to make call on roof By RICHARD JUSTICE Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle RESOURCES If the weather is nice, the roof at Minute Maid Park will be open for Game 3 of the World Series Tuesday night. And it won't be the Astros' call. Major League Baseball officials will decide. "MLB controls the postseason, certainly the World Series,'' commissioner Bud Selig said. ``We really haven't gotten heavily involved in the debate. "Our position is that we want teams to do what they do during the regular season. If, say, 80 degrees is the cutoff during the regular season, that's what it should be in the postseason. "I don't want it to become a farce. Let's say it's 72 degrees, why wouldn't the roof be open? Why do you have a retractable roof in the first place?,'' Selig said. The Astros would prefer to have the roof closed. "The wind can be tricky in here,'' one player said. ``I don't want to make it sound like an excuse, but it's not a true wind.'' Management prefers the roof closed because it makes for a louder environment. MLB officials don't like the idea of the roof being used for a competitive advantage. "As you may know, the Cardinals were mad about the roof being closed during the NLCS,'' an MLB official speaking on the condition of anonymity said. Whatever the reasons, the Astros have been one of the best home teams in baseball the last two years. They're 79-30 at Minute Maid Park since August 4, 2004. The roof was closed in the vast major of those games because of hot weather. "The players would prefer it be closed,'' Jeff Bagwell said. "That being said, we're not going to use the roof as an excuse.'' This isn't a new issue in the World Series. Randy Johnson wanted the roof closed in Phoenix in 2001. Because it was a nice weather night, MLB officials ordered it open. Selig said network television officials will have no say in the matter. "I don't think they care,'' he said.
AND ANOTHER THING... Bud "My Entire Career Is a Freaking FARCE" Selig ought pretty freaking careful throwing around the "farce" label. Get your damn camara shots and STFU, Buddy Boy.
Since we're in the middle of the Bud Selig love fest, I guess I should remind everybody that, if he had not made the idiotic "All star game winner gets home field advantage in the World Series" rule, the Astros would have had home field advantage this year...
if the conditions are cool enough to where the fans have to wear jackets in the stadium then the roof should be closed. baseball is meant to be played in warm weather. if it's in the 50's here with a north wind, at night, that means long sleeve shirts for players, and jackets for fans, which means the roof will have to be closed.
No argument that Selig is a bonafide moron. As far was home field advantage in the World Series, why wouldn't it just go to the team with the best regular season record. Oh wait, that might make too much sense and Bud wouldn't understand. Bud Adams, Bud Selig, if you go by "Bud" and your not associated with a brewery in St. Louis, then you might be a moron.
