    hey guys,

    got any suggestions/recommendations on plumbers? my house had a gas leak so i had to call the gas company. well, the representative came by and had to take the meter b/c there was a huge ass hole from a rusted pipe. he says i need a plumber to assess/fix the pipes and have an inspector come out. any advise would be appreciated.

    It very well might, especially if it is an older house and the plumbing is out of code. Strutton Plumbing is fair and straight forward....they'll let you know exactly what's up and how much it will cost. Good luck.

    This will cost a bundle. I like the part about telling gas company coming out, verifying the leak, turning the gas off, taking out the meter, and LEAVING.

    mac-

    I feel your pain. I bought an older home to restore, and I had to replace the entire gas piping system. Hell, I'm still without gas due to a strict inspector.

    Total cost so far has been about $3500. That's CHEAP due to some, ahem, self work.

    I'd either go with Chance's friend, or if that doesn't work out, let me know, I can forward you to a company that does excellent work.

    Good luck man, and get ready for some headaches.

    coma,

    how long have you been out of gas? how are you compensating? it's about to get cold soon and don't want to freeze my butt off.

    and by "Chance's friend" are you referring to RMTex?

    do you have a link to that company?

    i just had to replace the main line from my house to the city's line. not a cheap project. i dropped $3K on it and I used ARS. why ARS you might ask??

    1. i know they'll be there if my line has a problem next year;

    2. a freaking 10 year warranty. no one else came close to that. when i'm paying for projects like this, i like to know they're finished and i don't have to think about them again.

    I haven't moved in yet, so it's not a big deal....yet. I have some minor water heater issues and HVAC permits that have to be obtained, but that's another story.

    Chance is friends with a Master plumber who does side work. He's a REAL busy guy, so if you can't wait you may want to call Kathy with Plumbing Plus @ 281-499-5268. They are excellent, they've done work for my boss for the past 20 years. Prices are fair as well. If you want to gamble and go the cheaper route, I have a guy who may do it for you on the cheap, but you'll have to call a licensed plumber out to vouch for you. That may be a huge hangup.

    Bottom line: If you got the money, go w/ an turnkey outfit like Plumbing Plus. They can do it for you, get your gas turned on, and warranty the work.
