Considering that I lobbed this idea to EddieWasSnubbed like a softball and he whiffed, I'll do it myself - post a thread about UT going to #1 in the BCS. ESPN'S Link http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2202387 Southern California and Texas are in control at the top of the Bowl Championship Series standings for the second straight week. However, their positions are reversed. The Longhorns are ranked No. 2 in the USA Today and Harris Interactive polls and are ranked No. 1 in all five computer polls except Sagarin. Texas took over the top spot in the standings Monday, with a BCS grade of .9763. The second-place Trojans, who last week had a BCS grade of .9923, were not far behind at .9756. Rounding out the top 10 are Virginia Tech (.9164), Georgia (.8679), Alabama (.8513), UCLA (.7384), Miami (.7114), LSU (.7065), Penn State (.6450) and Florida State (.5735).
gonna be tough for anybody to beat USC in their own backyard in the Rose Bowl. Home field advantage is definitely on USC's side...
How so? It's not their home field nor will they have that many more fans than UT for it to be considered a very pro-USC crowd. UT traveled extremely well to Pasadena last season and you could bet they would again for the first national championship shot since 1983. The only downside would be the traveling, but it's not like UT's been horrible on the road the last few seasons or anything.
The overrated watch list....(2*computer average-Harris-Coaches) 1) Notre Dame....26 2) Auburn...........14 3) Florida State...12 4) California..........10 4) Miami...............10 6) Boston College..9 6) Florida..............9 Not to say these schools are bad teams, but their wins, schedule so far do not justify their human rankings. I think the human polls usually do a good job and they could be right about these teams, but these are the teams that statistically come up as having a high overrated potential.
USC would play in their home city. Their fans will have an easier time getting tickets and going to the game, due to being right there. That will create a crowd imbalance. Secondly, UT has had some issues on the road. Barely beating a mediocre Michigan team in the Rose Bowl last year, barely beating the #15 Ohio State team in Columbus this year, and the razor thin victory over Kansas last year have all been away from home. It makes a bigger difference that you are making it out to be.
I'm not sure exactly how the tickets are allocated, but I don't think there will be very many available to the general public. Both teams should have the same amount of tickets allocated to them and you cannot deny that UT travels extremely well and definitely will travel well to see them in the national championship game. Michigan was #13 in the nation last year. Hardly mediocre. OSU was #4 at the time and the Horseshoe is a tough place for anyone to win, regardless of ranking. Both wins were more impressive than you're making them out to be. As far as Kansas last year, a razor thin victory is a victory all the same. They haven't lost a road game in nearly three years, even though their neutral site record isn't nearly as impressive.
Are you denying that it was a win? Impressive or not, they still won the game. You can look at any great team in nearly any year and see games where they struggled, yet went on to win. USC last year v. Cal. USC this year a couple of times. So on and so forth. That's part of what makes teams great.
being number 1 in the BCS is fine, but it'll be short-lived. Texas has games against OSU, baylor, kansas, and aTm. USC has games against berkeley and Ucla. they will pass Texas soon. what's important is that the distance between Texas and VaTech increased. all Texas has to do is win out and they'll be in the Rose Bowl. word.
USC will lose before the end of the season. I would bet that it would either be against Fresno State (because it's the sandwhich between Cal and UCLA) or UCLA because of that offense the Bruins have. Don't forget, USC has been in trouble against Arizona State AND Arizona, in addition to Oregon. I really think they're going to slip up. But then again, I may just be blinded by my hatred of that craphole they call a city.
