This is a thread for anyone (like myself) who has ever doubted McLane's ability to lead the Astros to a WS to eat some crow and praise the man for getting the job done. Until last season, the Astros had been dominated in the postseason under McLane's ownership, winning only 2 games in 4 NLDS appearances. A successful regular season franchise, yes, but under the pressure folded quickly. With the addition of Beltran, Clemens, and Pettitte, the Astros came within one game of the WS in 2004. Had the tide turned? Maybe not. The Astros fell 15 games under .500. Same old McLane. Not spending to finish the job. But "Scrooge" had a plan. He stuck with it despite being buried by the press and some fans. Last night, mission accomplished. The young guys delivered. The monkey is finally off McLane's back. The guy who handed McLane the trophy said it best. McLane's accomplishments got overlooked until his team finally broke through. The Astros are a punching bag no more. Congratulations and thanks to McLane and the Astros for bringing Houston a NL pennant and a WS. Now lets go out there and kick some Chitown ***!
If this thread is similar to another thread, please merge. As a McLane basher, I wouldn't feel right unless I started my own.
I gave him a nice ovation last night at the bar. Thank you Drayton for the best 13 years of baseball any Astros fan has ever seen!!!
I want to see everyone who ever typed, "McScrooge" type "McChampion" or "McWorldSeries". Write it on the board 100 times: "Reckless spending does not win championships. Reckless spending does not win championships. Reckless spending..."
I've never understood all of the Drayton McLane... the dude has done nothing but put a winner on the field year after year. The team has had their ups and downs but from day one he has done nothing but improve this team and help improve our city.
