Myopic zealots is what they are. They bleed red. Admirable I suppose in their devotion, but nothing to get all worked up over.
Almost all of the Cards' fans I've met have had class and they're a great team so I'm not going to bad mouth them. It was a tough series and we came out on topt the Cards put up a great fight and that just makes it all the more sweeter.
Yes I have!! Since the days of Bob Watson, Cesar Cedeno, Jose Cruz, Terry Puhl, Vern Ruhle, JR, Nolan, Niekro, Joe Ferguson, Enos Cabell, Roger Metzger, Jose Gonzalez, Mark Lemongello, Alan Bannister, Ken Forsch, Joe Sambito, Frank LaCorte, those awful rainbow uniforms and the exploding scoreboard!

Nah, let's instead turn all that "we just punked your ass" energy against all things anti-Astro: the *@#$*& Braves, the #$&#$# Dodgers, Ray $@%# Knight and those damn Mets, Fred @#$&($# Brocklander, Walt Weiss, media haters, etc. Line 'em all up and give em a nice big... KISS MY (_|_) The Astros are in the World Series!!!!!
When I was a kid, I envisioned that Biggio, Bagwell, Caminiti, Yelding, Anthony, Gonzalez, Kile, Harnisch and Portugal would amount to something special in the MLB. Well, I'm glad Biggio and Bagwell made it. GO STROS!!!
I don't have time to read this whole thread, I'm sure I'll read it tomorrow. But this is truely a great moment in Houston sports history. I went to the NIN concert tonight, spent $45 dollars to get in and watch the entire game at the Jack Daniels bar at Toyota center. You should have seen how many people said screw the concert and watched the Astros win the NLCS. It was amazing! Houston is all about the Stros right now. Basically I paid a $45 cover to get into a bar and drink $7.50 beer to watch the astros win and it was totally worth it. Let's go Astros. Kick the crap out of the SOX!
My grandfather took me to the first game at Colt Stadium in '62. I was 8 years old. He is now 96 and I can't believe we BOTH lived to see this.
Stories like this make you realize how special this is! I hope both you and your grandfather get to enjoy not only a pennant, but a World Series win as well!
WOOO HOOO!!! World Series baby! Just wish my dad was here to see it. Who's your daddy Pujols? Totally classless after game 5 wearing that shirt in the press conference.
Major Major Props to the Astros! All the Astros ghosts are smilling today! Bob Watson, Cesar Cedeno, Larry Dierker, Art Howe, Joe Morgan, Craig Reynolds, Jose Cruz, Alan Ashby, Dickie Thon, Denny Walling, Mike Scott, J.R. Richard Joe Niekro! All the guys I loved growing up! I never thought I'd see the day when I could say Houston Astros and World Series in the same sentence! Congratulations and Good Luck! The New York Daily News lead story in today's Sports section! New York Daily News - http://www.nydailynews.com New world is Astronomical BY DARREN EVERSON DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Thursday, October 20th, 2005 ST. LOUIS - In the end, Albert Pujols' heroic homer didn't go far enough. It couldn't carry the Cardinals all the way to Chicago, or even to a Game 7. And it couldn't keep the Astros from going where they never have before. For the first time in the franchise's 44-year history, Houston is in the World Series. Led by dominating starter Roy Oswalt, the Astros overcame their Game 5 collapse and finished off the Cardinals. The Astros won NLCS Game 6, 5-1, last night at Busch Stadium, closing the soon-to-be demolished park and winning the series, four games to two. When it was over, Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell hugged each other on the dugout bench. They've been Astros their entire major-league careers, which means they've never been to the Series. "Finally," said Biggio, the 39-year-old second baseman. "The baseball gods smiled down on us." So the World Series will match two teams starved for a title. The White Sox, who haven't won since 1917, will play host to Game 1 Saturday night. Roger Clemens is expected to start for Houston. The Astros appeared to be on their way there Monday. Then Pujols' massive home run stunned closer Brad Lidge and won Game 5. But Oswalt proved that momentum does indeed end with the next game's starter. He allowed three hits and one run over seven innings, earning him the series MVP award. Oswalt was 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA. "There's a reason the clubhouse was loose today," manager Phil Garner said. "When you're running Roy out there, you've got to feel pretty good about your chances." Mark Mulder was not nearly as solid. He came apart in the third inning after throwing to the wrong base on a sacrifice bunt, and he lasted only 4-2/3 innings.Injuries ultimately left the Cards unable to avenge last season's World Series sweep against Boston. "We were really beat up," La Russa said, "(but) it wasn't a health problem; it was an Astros problem." Oswalt was the main problem. His first-inning strikeout of Pujols (0-for-4), who nearly fell down as he tried to check his swing, was a sign of things to come. Oswalt held St. Louis hitless through the first four innings. But in the fifth, the first two batters reached, including a single by Yadier Molina. Then Oswalt got wild himself as he fielded a smash by Abraham Nuñez. The pitcher benefited from a questionable call by second base umpire Greg Gibson. Oswalt's throw to second was wide to the right field side. Shortstop Adam Everett had to lunge for it, causing him to come off the base and miss the tag on Molina. Gibson, however, ruled he tagged him. Tony La Russa argued to no avail. "We called it a tag. He was not called out for being out of baseline," crew chief Tim McClelland said. Mulder unraveled in the third, after Oswalt sacrificed runners to second and third. Mulder fielded the bunt in good position to throw out Brad Ausmus at third base. Mulder looked only at second, where he had no play. He wound up settling for the sure out at first. The blown opportunity immediately appeared to rattle Mulder. His next pitch was wild, skipping to the backstop and bringing in Ausmus. After another ball, Craig Biggio smacked a 2-0 pitch for an RBI single. The Astros led, 2-0, and upped it to 3-0 in the fourth on a Jason Lane homer. Eventually, the only drama was whether Phil Garner would use Lidge to close the game. Instead he tabbed Dan Wheeler, while Lidge warmed up in the bullpen, just in case. The ex-Met Wheeler gave up a two-out single but got Molina to fly out to right to end the game. "Of course I wanted to pitch," Lidge said, "but I don't care about pitching in this game because I'm going to be pitching in the World Series."
I cant even begin to describe how I feel right now. It is almost like I am still in shock. We are going to the World Series!!! This is especially sweet for me to beat the Co-ardinals. I lived there from 1998-2003 and the whole fan thing is so overrated. they do support their team. As for them being classy, well IMO they are smug at best. Either way we shut down busch stadium. Unbelievable! I am numb.
