I was near St. Louis this weekend working a club that is managed, owned and operated by a Cardinals fan. He let me have it last year, and this year I am the one laughing...at least for now. He is a cool guy, a classy fan and a friend. If you would, thank him for the strings he pulled for me and the Astros, here is my humble submission to him. Feel free to thank him as well and I will be happy to forward the responses to him. Thank you...Thank you... I know you have a lot of pull there in Missouri but you really have outdone yourself this past week Matt. You can't fool me man, you called the Cardinals and explained how important it was for you to accommodate your lone employee from Houston. Dude, how many favors did you burn to insure that hitters wouldn't crush with runners in scoring position and that pitchers would toss wiffleballs to our utility players. LaRussa and Edmunds was the biggest coup, man, you're good! I'm back in Houston now and even though your hospitality has been appreciated, it's been too much..I'm embarrassed! I fully expect to see the Cardinals play like the World Series team that they were last year (in the World Series). Karen Carpenter (sp?) is on the mound tonight to oppose a pitcher that I'm sure you've heard little of, however I'll spare you the details. So make your calls Matt! Tell your guys that it's OK to hustle to first base now. Tell 'em that those injuries are all in their mind. Assure them that they can win a series against a team that was 15 games below 500.. Remind them that they won 100 games this season! Finally Matt, if you make can make to Houston tonight, I'll make some calls and try to be just as accommodating. Hopefully my guys will listen to me as yours have surely listened to you... See ya this time next year? Your friend and most appreciative employee... Billy D. Washington
I won't be laughing at any Cardinal fan until that little "Astros Win Series" tag is on the "FINAL" scoreboard. I have some redbird jokes in my repertoire ready, though. move this thread to the Astros forum?
Original, I think. I just said it one night and wrote it down in my notebook. I have a bunch of lines that are short of brilliant but perfect for a discount t-shirt. "Problem? We have a Houston!"
