    NEW YORK

If Michelle Kosinski's canoe had sprung a leak on NBC's "Today" show Friday, she didn't have much to worry about.

In one of television's inadvertently funny moments, the NBC News correspondent was paddling in a canoe during a live report about flooding in Wayne, N.J. While she talked, two men walked between her and the camera _ making it apparent that the water where she was floating was barely ankle-deep.

Matt Lauer struggled to keep a straight face, joking about the "holy men" who were walking on water.

"Have you run aground yet?" Katie Couric asked.

"Why walk when you can ride?" Kosinski replied.

Later, an NBC News spokeswoman explained that Kosinski had been riding in deeper water near an overflowing river down the street, but there were concerns that the current was too strong for her.

"It's not like we were trying to pass it off as something it wasn't," spokeswoman Lauren

The media is sensationalizing the news in order to make something out of nothing? I am shocked!

OK, someone needs to photoshop that New Orleans Heineken guy into that picture and it will be the greatest picture of all time.

For those of you who don't get it, this is the first reporter to "break" the story of the rehearsed and "fake" conference with the troops. This story happened the very next day. Irony at its best.

Did she do the Today show segment for the Bush story as well? NOt that it makes a difference, since both stories are produced by the Today Show, but I didn't see the Bush story so I'm just curious.

That was so hilarious. What morons. The great thing is that MSNBC was even making of it themselves. The site of those workers walking by with their food was just too funny.

What she said right before the men walked by was hilarious as well:

I think the only thing left for this woman is this: http://www.nakednews.com/ (warning, not safe for work).

Her producers are the ones tha suggested the idea. They should be lambasted as well. The whole thing was so funny it was like a comedy skit on SNL or something.

The world must be really messed up when real news trumps SNL.

To his credit Matt Lauer stopped her report and said "Wait a minute. Did two guys just WALK past your canoe? Is there like a steep drop off there or something?" Then just started laughing at her dumb ass.

Now THAT is funny! Reminds me of some of the Rita coverage here in Houston.

Channel 13 had Deborah Wrigley stationed at Braes Bayou talking about how frightened residents were of it over flowing. As she was talking, a little girl (probably 2 years old) walked right behind her and picked some flowers! And of course the bayou itself looked like it was completely empty. :D

Also, Channel 2 had some weirdo named Robert Arnold (I think) that was reporting from Beaumont. He was clearly a rookie reporter because he was literally YELLING at the top of his lungs into the mic about how hard the wind was blowing. He said the raindrops felt like daggers and he kept saying "OW...OW, THAT HURT!!!...OW!!!"

Then they went to Phil Archer (veteran reporter) who was also in Beaumont and he was just talking in his normal voice and not yelling at all, even though he was just a few blocks away from Arnold.
