Thanks for the links, Bob. My questions/comments:

"Don't Let Me Down": For such an organ-driven song, it seems weird that they showed Billy Preston like once the whole time -- and that was only because he was in between a cameraman and a bobby that was the subject of the shot.

"Get Back": I'm not an expert on such things, but it looked like John was playing lead guitar instead of George. Was he? Was that common in the later years, or in general? (Or am I seeing things?)

"Revolution": See above re: lead guitar. Also, weren't they actually performing "Revolution 1" with the "shooby-doo-wops" and all?

John played lead as early as "You Can't Do That" from Hard Day's Night and maybe earlier. Just like George got a couple of tries at songwriter per album, John got to play lead every once in a while.

Revolution 1 was the slower album cut and Revolution was the backside of the Let It Be single. Somebody definately overdubed the version in the video.

It falls somewhere between the two, and the distinction as two seperate songs is somewhat false as one is really just the evolution of the other. It has the "count me out/in" like and the "shooby-do-wops" but doesn't have the acoustic guitar or slower feel of the album version.

 

I wasn't even born when these songs were made. But I like every single one of them anyway. This is what I call music.

 

Thanks for digging up that other video. I had always though that the two versions were more or less contemporary with each other (only knowing that the electric version was on the Past Masters Vol. 2 CD), but I saw at allmusic that they were released almost 1.5 years apart.

(My 300th post is on the Beatles! My dad would be so proud.)

beatles related, whats a good website where i can buy/listen/or download some good beatles bootlegs, like alternate versions or takes of songs? they are by far my favorite band of all time but the only thing i've heard in this regard are the anthologies.

Keep in mind that there is a limited number of sources to draw upon. There is lots of repetition and some straight out forgeries (they take an existing song, add whacky EQ and claim it's a different take.) Also what I have on MP3's isn't exactly overwhelming.

The best stuff is the Let It Be movie footage. They never stop the tape machine and you get to hear all kinds of interesting stuff.
