yeah..they go a little overboard on instant replays. i'm pretty sure i saw burke sliding into 3B with that triple 423,497 times. give or take a few. my five year old son said, "geez, are they gonna show that a million times??!!"

I think plunking someone because they take too long admiring a ball they hit out of the park is deplorable. That's a baseball code that I think is awful.

As for the St. Louis fans...I can't hate them like I hate Cubs, or Braves fans. They collectively suck donkey balls.

Why are you guys so surpriesed that Pujols walked half way to first admiring his HR? He does it everytime.

If that was the case Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz would be plucked a lot. They always do it, thats why I didn't think nothing of it when Pujols did it.

Not suprised at all. What's Oswalt going to do? Plunk the next couple batters in response? The game's late enough where Roy would not face him again. At any rate, maybe I'm glad it happened because Oswalt's fastball went up to 97 a couple of times after that HR. He sat down the next 3 convincingly.

I'm not on this page so I thought I would chime in. ;)

I think Sanders is an ass. :) The fans were cheering but were they expecting the curtain call? I think not. Sanders had to put his arrogant ass on a pedestal and buoy the game by bending the meaning of a curtain call to suit his own selfish, pricklish needs and answer his own questions like "why am i still playing at this age?", "am i really this good?", and "am i special?". the answers are "i don't now", "no", and "no" respectively. and/or, he thought he would get the fans more involved coming out for the curtain call. in conclusion, sanders is a selfish ass. by the way, get well soon. pujols is a piranha. don't get me started there. :D

commentary coming to you from...the ass of Surfguy.

damn i can't wait for the next game. damn.

On Sander's curtain call - I still don't see what Sanders did wrong here. Don't fans push for the curtain call? It's not like Sanders asked for it.

On Pujols' HR watching... yeah, it's annoying. But I believe in the Jose Lima philosophy. People b****ed all the time about his emotion and dancing and stuff after strikeouts. His response? Don't strike out if you don't want me to enjoy it. He also had the same attitude the other way - if you hit a HR against him, do what you want. It's his job to not allow it.

I do think it changes my view of players - I hated Griffey and Bonds for the same thing (still hate Bonds, but don't mind Griffey) - but I don't think there's anything too terribly wrong with the player doing it. Besides, Pujols doesn't have that attitude normally - it seemed a bit out of character. Not sure if it was frustration or what.

i agree. it did seem a bit out of character for pujols, and while he has been known to destroy the astros, i still like him. he's a nice guy.

and can we just make it a rule to not mention anything about any "baseball gods" in any of these forums? i mean it's enough that you're wishing serious injuries for the opposition, but to try to justify that with saying they deserve any punishment from the baseball gods? ehhh....

Ric, I gotta agree with you here.

Sanders doing the curtain call is so amateur. What a freaking moron.

And Pujols, I'd be more okay with it if he tied it up or took the lead with that shot, but hey bro, you are still losing! Thats just pure cockiness by his part.

Karma is a b****, Reggie got his and now Pujols is waiting in the wing.

did the fans drag him out of the dugout by force? show some class - i didn't see lamb curtain-calling on a far more important HR yesterday.

it is bush. the gods are ALL OVER this cardinal team. sanders, nunez... two down, several more to go.......

So he shouldn't respect the wishes of his own fans because the opposing team's fans might not like it? Brilliant.

This is the dumbest discussion I think I've ever been associated with.

waiitttt.. it's not about the opposing fans. it's about not making a huge deal out of a 1st inning HR. curtain calls at that point are ridiculous.

did the fans ask for it?? debateable. they certainly clapped. but they always clap when their team hits a HR.

Well, 0-4, 2SO in some big situations. I wasn't too far off.

After watching Sanders on multiple teams, both routing for him and against him, I can tell you he just isn't a great player. He punishes fastballs in the zone, no doubt--which he gets a lot on that Cardinals team, but against a good pitcher with some command of breaking balls, he just isn't very good.

Not only Pujols, but quite honestly Walker and Edmunds get me a whole lot more nervous against good pitching. Walker in particular can be a pesky pain in the ass even when the pitcher has great stuff. Sanders is as close to an easy out as you get in the middle of a healthy Cardinals line-up.

Isn't part of the definition of a curtain call something that the fans ask for? If he just wandered back out onto the dugout steps, then I agree it was ridiculous, but then it wasn't a curtain call.

If the fans ask something of their players, for whatever reason, I don't see a problem with an athlete responding. Last year, second home game of the playoffs. Top of the first inning, Beltran makes a pretty good catch - nothing particularly earthshattering. Wasn't really a big deal. We gave him a standing O for like a minute. It was ridiculous, but that's what fans do. As a St. Louis fan, I'd be more pissed if he didn't come out in response to our request for a curtain call than if he did. I just don't see the problem with him doing that.

I wasn't upset when Rodney Harrison went down for the year and if Bill Romanowski got hit by a bus today I don't think I'd shed a tear but other than that, I'm good.
