Rockets guard Bob Sura said Thursday he has been told that he has a 70 percent chance of returning to the court, but that if he can play again, the surgery and rehabilitation will keep him out "for months."

Rockets doctors have not set a timetable on his return, waiting until after "the post-operative phase" before making an estimate. But Sura, 32, said he knows he will have to learn to be patient.

"It's been difficult," Sura said after watching Thursday's practice. "In the summer, it was easier with nothing going on. Now that the guys are back at it and the sneakers are squeaking and stuff, it's hard.

"The uncertainty is really the hard part. Whether I'm going to be able to play, whether I'm not is really hard. I don't know. I don't know if anybody does. The doctor gave me a 70/-...

months??....I thought it was only till December.

Now I see what they meant when they said they were looking at several moves for about a month [including the Alston/James trade] since they knew Sura isn't coming back for atleast a couple of months.

We could look on the bright side, he may come back just when we need a boost. For instance, we may start the season and go 35-3, then lose two games in a row. Then Sura could come back and we'll go on another run ending the season 38-4. Regular season record: 73-9.

Yeah Rockets and no one can beat us in a 7 game series. Championship. The End.

It COULD happen that way or Sura will be a boost no matter when he comes back. Stay positive Sura, you'll get through this one too!

I wouldn't say he had a "career" year. He has increased his scoring avg 3-4 points every year in the league. His assists were way up last year because it was the 1st time he was a starter (started 78 games). The year before, he only started 28 games. To me a career year is your best season in hindsight but I suspect Skip will post similar or better #'s this season, hopefully ;)

Good luck, Bob. We need you back 100% by all-star break!

Damn, Sura sounds really concerned. I guess there is good reason since this is his third knee surgery in the past year.

Hmmm... I wonder what we're going to do about backup point. Maybe T-Mac will handle the ball when Skip's out. I'm not crazy about Wesley or Barry setting up the offense. I'm not sure about Anderson.

I figured All Star Break for him to return
2 months rehab
and a month or so for him to get into GAME SHAPE
but
this report seems like he maybe done . . . Period.

Just trade the guy. As soon as he can set his foot on the court, trade him. Yea I think the guy played nice with TMac but the guy's injuries are just nagging. We have like a bunch of combo guards and two pg's right now in Moochie and Alston. If Moochie and Alston prove they can handle the ball then maybe I'll be ok with Sura sitting on the bench to join along the ride. If Moochie or head don't work at the back up pg position then I think it is time to trade. I really don't think it would help the Rockets for them to rely and grow Chemistry with Sura in the lineup to only have him get injured or be too weak to play during the playoffs. I'm just sick of hearing all this news about his injury. Come on CD and JVG get us healthy pg's that will contribute.

All of that is irrelevant as long as the other GM's in the league have a mind to match their position. It is much much easier said than done, when it comes to trading an injury prone player -especially one facing such serious injuries- for servicable players in return.
