Saw it last night, was pretty good, lot of gruesome parts and they actually showed it, which I like. Not really much to the story imo, but the gruesome parts made it worth it. Anyone else seen it?
I had no intention of seeing it but after you stating that it has gruesome parts,I want to see it now.
I saw this on opening night. I can't remember the last time a movie's violence was so graphic, real, and disturbing that I actually squirmed in my seat. That being said, I was kind of thrown off by the movie. A lot of the movie is either supposed to be darkly humorous, or is so over the top that the screenwriter just got out of a nightclass on screen writing. I'm inclined to believe the former. However, the problem with the film's dark humour is that it throws the rest of the film off. When you go to see a comedy, it's understood that the "serious" scenes are mere necessities to move the plot along, which is ultimately a means of segwaying from comedic moment to comedic moment. This is why no one is actually concerned when the girl leaves Owen Wilson in the middle of Wedding Crashers. We know that we don't need to be emotionally invested in the plot. The same effect works against a lot of History of Violence. Some of the parts are so offbeat or humorous that it makes the dramatic scenes difficult to take seriously. You're still in laughing mode and aren't able to view the drama with a truly invested eye. At least, I wasn't. However, I don't think it ruins the movie. It's still good for some laughs and some truly graphic violence. I'd recommend it.
I would hope not. Every comedy I can remeber has had a "misunderstanding montage" where the girl and guy's relationship is in serious peril and then something has to happen to make everything better.
