Okay i have read way to many posts about how Carr is this and that. I don't think you can put any other QB except a Vick type back that can actually stay alive back there in our pocket. The O-Line sucks and we need to address that first before we start saying we need a new QB. No one we get is going to be able to do anything with the type of protection we are giving him. So what is the consensus of this board. Do we go out and bump up our OL or get a new QB. I say we fix the damn OL. Without that Davis is not going to be able to run, Carr doesn't have time to pass, and Johnson is not going to get any passes thrown his way if Carr is being sacked.
it is not just GET A QB If a QB of massive potential . . of more potential than Carr . . .you take him If you get the top pick . . . ..You take the TOP PLAYER PERIOD QUESTION: Is it the OL or the OL COACH? Rocket River
It's the offensive line, it sucked before Pendry joined the staff. You HAVE to take the elite O-linemen like Ferguson. No QB can succeed behind our offensive line, why waste a #1 on another QB and let him get killed?
Agreed...just take a look at the Chargers for the past couple of years. They had the first pick when Vick was drafted, traded down and got LT and Brees. I'm sure they don't regret it even though they made the error of drafting another QB when they thought Brees couldn't play. I hope the Texans don't make the same mistake.
Carr is OVERRATED ... avg QB at most ... yeah you can blame the OL but just look. I doubt if you put Carr in NY or Cinn he'll be as good as ELI or CARSON. The dude just isn't "IT" Get a better OL and then what? be 8-8 7-9 for the next 5 yrs? If you guys dont think Jacksonville or Cinn can go far with Leftwich or Carson. Then there's no way we'll EVERY be an elite championship team. We'll just be a reg avg team at BEST!
Let's look at the flipside then. Put Eli or Carson on their ass 76 times (or whatever that ridiculous number was) their rookie year, don't improve the OL in 3 years, and see how they turn out.
The OL does suck and needs to be addressed first no doubt. But Carr will need to be addressed afterwards. Even when he does have time, he doesn't make the most of it. They are both problems, IMO.
You build your OL first. That formula hasn't changed, and it was the formula that Casserly started with, then abandoned, apparently deeming no OL in any draft or free agency since expansion save the occasional "sleeper" like Seth Wand (who at last reports, was still asleep) worthy of a spot on the biggest scrap heap OL in the NFL. It's not the blocking scheme.
Me too This was the teams 1st mistake and kind of for told of things to come he raped the Texans Rocket River
Totally agree. How could the Texans have not seen it coming. The guy was injured before they selected him and had a history of getting hurt. This was a HUGE waste of time and money on the part of the organization. As far as Carr goes, I think that he is a quality QB. You can't fault him for his inability to stay off his back and lack of throwing time. This responsibility falls on the heads of the O-Line.
I think it's definitely the OL, but I don't think Carr does much to help matters. Address the OL and see how he reacts. If it's not positive, you have to go find another QB. You definitely don't take one this year.
once again, i agree with RM95. i'm not convinced carr is the long-term answer. but at this point, if i LOVED a young QB with a first round pick, i wouldn't dare throw him behind this OL to protect him.
They both suck, and they both need to be addressed. The Texans should not give Carr the $8 million dollar contract extension if he doesn't improve his level of play. I would get rid of Carr and try to bring in a veteran QB like Kitna in the offseason. Also, keep an eye on what happens with the QB situation in San Diego. Then the Texans should build their OL in the draft. This draft is loaded with great LT prospects so they should trade down in the 1st, pick up some additional picks, and still be able to get an elite LT prospect. Ideally, the Texans would have the 1st overall pick, and would be able to trade down a few spots with a team that would give up an additional 2nd and 3rd for Leinert. That would give us one 1st, two 2nds, and three 3rds to help the new coach bring in players that would fit his system. Most importantly, though, the Texans need to fire Casserly. There would be too many 2nd and 3rd round picks for him to screw up.
