I don't remember if we've done this topic or not, and I think the Pearl Harbor thread calls for one: What is the best war movie ever? Personally, I like Platoon. The first casualty of war is innocence. ------------------ blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Wow, what a tough question. It is tough because there are so many good films and performances relating to that topic. I'd put Saving Private Ryan at the top of my list for sure. Apocolypse Now also would rate near the top. From Here to Eternity was also a great one. ------------------ The internet is about the free exchange and sale of other people's ideas. - Futurama
My vote goes to Glory. ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
That's a good choice. ------------------ The internet is about the free exchange and sale of other people's ideas. - Futurama
I prefer The Bridge on the River Kwai. ------------------ Charles Barkely on the Raptors defeating the Knicks in Round 1 :"I think it was the Lord. The Lord was with the Raptors. You know the Knicks like to talk so much about religion, but I think the Lord was a Raptor fan."
I *love* that movie . . . although I like "The Great Escape" better. ------------------ blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Thin Red Line - without a doubt, an intelligent, thought provoking, brilliantly acted war movie... No disrespect to the 'Saving Private Ryan' fans...I also liked that film...but I thought TRL with infinitely superior and it was a real pity that SPR got all the publicity (they were released almost at the same time) For a truely stunning look at war...watch Thin Red Line on DVD...the sounds of the wind in the grass on that hill climb scene are chilling. ------------------
Yup... we've done this one. In fact, (hehe) I started the original topic. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum7/HTML/003601.html My choices were in the first thread and they went like this: (in no particular order) Apocalypse Now The Big Red One Saving Private Ryan 1941 Attack Force Z Force 10 from Navarone Gallipoli MASH Baa Baa Black Sheep Full Metal Jacket Hamburger Hill Platoon The Boys in Company C Deer Hunter (war scenes) happy re-threading, rH ------------------ visit: The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love!
The Great Escape is an excellent movie, But I enjoyed Stalag 17 better. ------------------ Charles Barkely on the Raptors defeating the Knicks in Round 1 :"I think it was the Lord. The Lord was with the Raptors. You know the Knicks like to talk so much about religion, but I think the Lord was a Raptor fan."
2thumbs up... Kelly's Heros Apocalypse Now Platoon Das Boot Full Metal Jacket Saving Pvt. Ryan Boys in Company C Rambo ------------------ "UNBEATABLE"
There are no good wars...with the following three exception...The American Revolution, World War II, and the Star Wars Trilogy -Bart Simpson ------------------ If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!!
I saw Pearl Harbor but I'am gonna havr to go with Saving Private Ryan as my favorite war movie. ------------------
I'd have to go with "Breaker Morant" ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... Phil Gramm: "If Democrats could, they'd tax the air we breathe." Ted Kennedy (jumping up): "By God, why didn't I think of that sooner!" Boston College - NCAA Hockey National Champions 2001
The Empire Strikes Back Oh, and the Thin Red Line SUCKED A$$ ------------------ Liberals favor using artificial means to alter the normal to a state which facilitates and justifies how irresponsible they want to be
The first 30-40 minutes of "Full Metal Jacket", when they are in Marine boot camp at Parris Island, SC, is the best stretch of film in any war movie ever made. The best war movie ever made, however, is the original version of "All Quiet on the Western Front". ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
Recently, I kinda liked u-571. I haven't seen Born on the First of July, but I heard it was good. I don't have much imput on this category but I did like Gettysburgh and I did like Top Gun if you count that. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
