Yea, I love the bravado too. Perhaps our friend should enlist and funnel that anger. Go to Iraq and you can have at it at all the Muslims you want, buddy. Noone is stopping you.
You know I'm a fairly well educated American but I couldn't possibly guess the race of this woman. Persian, Arab, Pakastani, Kashmiri, Vijay Singh's cousin. Hell I don't know...am I supposed to?
Azadre, tigermission1, robbie380, thacabbage, Mulder, If any of you would like to act like adults and argue my point instead of nitpicking at the specific words that I used, then we might be able to have a grown up conversation about it. I’m sorry I’m not well versed in exact names of races, religion, and nationalities etc. I was just quickly trying to come up with names. I wasn’t too concerned about what names I wrote because that wasn’t the point. The point is like it or not, that “insert politically correct term here” are more likely to commit these acts then are others. However I DON”T think we should ever act on that because you still have to look at everyone equally. But when it happens again don’t be surprised when they are all “insert politically correct term here”.
76% of Arab Americans are Christian or have no religion. http://www.aaiusa.org/demographics.htm 30% of Muslims in America are Black http://usinfo.state.gov/products/pubs/muslimlife/demograp.htm P.S.: And I couldn't even find demographics on Sikhs and Hindus in America (ie: percentage of Southeast American population that are). The bottom line: Stereotypes don't work.
Damn I just got back from work and thecabbage beat me to it, so what he said, I was about to post the same thing to show you documented proof that stereotypes with a religion as diverse as Islam will never work, you can try it (and it's being used already whether we argue over it or not) but it never works. Bigots are going around shooting Sikhs and Hindus thinking they are Muslims, and the absolute majority of Arab-Americans are Christians, not Arabs, and yet they recieve similar discrimination. Anyways, you're free to hold whatever views you hold, but don't b**** and moan when langal comes in here and makes a similar argument to yours as to why he suspects White people. Either way, it speaks of ignorance, because it's oversimplifying the facts, and not taking into consideration the context of what's going on in the world today, leading people to mistakenly believe that everything is taking place in a vaccum.
Ok, I see what your saying now. I admit I was totally ignorant to these facts, however I feel the difference between ignorance and stupidity is the ability to learn. I’m sorry if I offended anybody. I just assumed Muslims=Middle East=Bin Laden. I do know a lot of history like American, Mexican, European, but the Middle East never got my interest. So just replace “Muslims” in my post to “Bin Laden fans” and I think we can all agree Anyway what the hell are we arguing about, preseason starts next week!!! WOOOOO
I can't fight anymore, I am just sooooo happy and proud of my BBS brethrens for getting Clutch back his access to training camp. You guys rock
which one of these did you just get off of? http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q...ozilla:en-US:official&sa=N&tab=ff&oi=froogler
This is a great and rare sort of post. Agent, the big problem isn't that you might have offended someone here. The big problem is that most Americans share the ignorance (not stupidity, I agree) you acknowledge, but most will not have occasion to advantage the 'opportunity to learn' you cite. That is what is really offensive, not your posts. I'm glad you've seen the folly of the sort of racial (or religious) profiling you advocated in earlier posts in this thread. I hope you'll help to spread the word about the things you learned in this thread. The exact sort of "ignorance" you acknowledged in your last, admirable post is epidemic in America now and it is a substantial detriment to success in any meaningful war on terror. Virtually every Muslim, Christian, agnostic, atheist or Jew is against "fans of Bin Laden." That's the thing. You can't profile "fans of Bin Laden." Not by the color of their skin or the prayers they pray or how much milk or fertilizer or box cutters they buy. What you can do is educate yourself. The more we do that in America the less we will fit the "profile" of ugly (and ignorant) Americans the real "fans of Bin Laden" seek to assign us all.
I saw a toilet last month that was a combo Western Sitter and Asian Squatter - in other words, a small seat/bowl with foot grips on the bowl and a bar for balance near the ceiling. It was utterly repulsive and features prominently in my nightmares. Note to toilets: swing one way or the other, do not switch hit - it just screws it up for everyone.
It takes a bigger man to acknowledge what you did, I applaud you. We are all ignorant when it comes to one topic or another, no one knows everything, and that's what the D&D is good for as long as you keep an open mind: learning something you didn't previously know. So, Agent86, if you see an Arab man/woman on the street, don't say "Assalam Alaikum" right away, because it's most likely that they are Christians
We need to keep an eye on the 24% of Arab Americans who are non-Christian or have religion. also, keep tabs on 70% of Muslims in America who are not black. Excellent work.
