I know he played it when he was at Washington with Webber being the PF. The question is can he still be able to play that position. I'm think of this because we would want the best 5 - man on the court, and imo that would Yao, Swift, Juwan, T - Mac (as the point - SG) and either Derek anderson or Mike James with Sura out.
You dont always wnat your best 5 on the court at the same time. That is why many teams put there 4th or 5th best player on the bench as the 6th man. You need a spark off the bench when all the starters get some rest. Also playing 5 good offesnive players on the court at the same time doenst do any good since they all need the ball. So why dont we just leave it to Vgundy who's a genius coach to figure out the rotation.
10 years ago he could. Now? ehhh.... But the consensus, and rightfully so, IMO, is that SF is the best spot for Tracy on Defense as it is the least taxing on him. Putting Howard there forces Tracy to chase little guards around, like he did last season during the part where we sucked donkey 'nads.
Don't forget differences in offense and defense. JHow could play SF on offense since TMac essentially plays PG on offense. On defense, JHow is a 4. And as others noted, we don't want TMac playing PG on defense so he'll move back to 3 on defense anyway.
I know what you are thinking: Will Swift and JH ever be on the floor at the same time? Yes they will, but Swift will be playing center and JH at PF. We have too many smalls to need JH at SF.
DA, Bowen or Barry would be a better option to back up T-Mac. And Wesley is a much better all around player the MJames.
Depending on the matchup maybe the 6-8 minutes Tmac is resting each night. That still leaves him 10-20 a night at PF when Swift is sitting, again, depending on matchups. But I would still want to see some mix of Wesley, James, Barry and Anderson on the floor at the 1/2 and even maybe a little Head (when we're up by 15+ in the 4th in November)! Playing swift, tmac and jho at the same time could be an interesting experiment - again depending on the matchup. If it works JVG will figure it out. I don't see it working every game. BTW looking at 82games.com it was interesting to see the numbers for Tmac and James combos on the floor - they seemed to be very productive. Now Tmac just needs a special hand signal to MJ for "pass me the ball NOW!!!"
I think has better quickness to play SF than Howard, but then again why would you wanna take Tmac away from SF? It is by far his most comfortable postion.
how can we have too many small forwards when ryan bowen is the only back-up to mac? i see that the rockets will play derek anderson at the sf spot when t-mac gets rest, and juwun howard could play that position also.
