Can we ever have a National Exam given on a Saturday? Probably not. Think about it. In order to have a Saturday examination you must have an alternate date for those that cannot sit for the exam on Saturday. Anyone who takes the the Sabbath as a holy day cannot sit for the exam because of their religious beliefs. Still, they have the right to sit for the exam under the law. If you don't set up an alternate date then you've violated their rights as a citizen. So you must have an alternate date for them to sit for the exam. The problem is, that with the Internet and things such as this BBS, it's too easy to have one person take the exam a day early and then put all the questions on the internet... just like what happened at the highschool aptitude test this week. It seems impossible, if you ask me, to ever give a Saturday Examination again. I don't know much about this holy sabbath day, but if it's every saturday, then we have a small problem on our hands. Sunday creates and even bigger issue. So Monday thru Friday is pretty much it unless I've got this all figured wrong.... ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy, eh? Since when did taking a test become unholy? I think i want to be holy everyday ... Woohoo!! No more tests for me! I really don't think God intended for us to sit on our rears' doing nothing for one day of each week. ------------------ If Bill Gates had a dime for every time Windows crashed... Oh, Wait!! He Does!
Jews have very specific rules about these things. No work is supposed to be done on the Sabbath, which is reserved for studying the Scriptures. They are not allowed to write anything down, for one, so how are they supposed to take a test? ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
Jesus said the Sabbath was created for man, not man for the Sabbath, and thus we should not be required to work for one day a week, but we are allowed to. Also, the exam could be given after sunset, as the Sabbath lasts from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. ------------------ Liberals favor using artificial means to alter the normal to a state which facilitates and justifies how irresponsible they want to be
Here I was thinking the Sabbath was Sunday. ------------------ "If a nuclear bomb dropped on earth, two things would survive: roaches and David Falk." -- Kevin McHale quote courtesy of Patricia Bender's website.
Hydra, that's an interesting point, but then you still have the problem of time differences. People would still be able to cheat if they didn't start at the exact same time after sundown. Even if it was a two hour exam the West Coast needs to start at the same time as the East Coast to prevent cheating. If the West Coast started at 8 pm (after sundown), then the test on the east Coast would have to start at 11 pm. That's pretty late for an exam. It would be a tough sell. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
The Sabbath is representative of the seventh day. In the Gregorian(?) calender, Sunday is the first day. ------------------ Liberals favor using artificial means to alter the normal to a state which facilitates and justifies how irresponsible they want to be
I'm going into my senior year so I know about all this stuff lol. I would hope that it would be a differnt test. I mean it would be way to easy to get info from friends etc. Even if they didn't mean to cheat I'm sure if I had friends take the test on an earlier day it would be tempting to ask questions. ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Don'nt ask me, but it's against their religion to work on Saturday's and they consider an exam work. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
The LSAT is sometimes given on Saturdays, and they do have alternate test dates for Saturday Sabbath Observers (usually the next Monday). The SAT also has Saturday test dates. There is usually an administration the next day (Sunday) for Saturday Sabbath observers. As far as I know, the tests aren't exactly the same depending on the day (as they aren't exactly the same depending on time zones). Each administration has a fresh test, I assume that is the same for exams given a day later at the same testing center. The FBI busted a GRE cheating ring that took advantage of the time zone differences back in 1996, so now the exam one takes on the East Coast is not the same exam that one takes on the West Coast on the same day. (And as these tests become computerized, which actually may have happened on the SAT by now for all I know, randomizing questions becomes very easy.) ------------------ Houston Sports Board Film Dallas.com AntiBud.com
