Keeley is right, David Wells and leader is an oxymoron.

This guy still has the skills (which are declining faster than the Canadian Dollar), but his attitude and whiny attitude more than make up for this. If he comes to Houston, he'll probably find some way to berate the city, team, teammates, fans or perhaps all of the above. The only place he can effectively play at this point of his career is New York.

Okay, leader wasn't the word I was looking for.

He'd shake up the clubhouse, I mean what's been a major complaint about this team?

All of these guys aren't very outspoken. We had that jackass that would stir up emotion in Everett, I think Wells could be that guy that would light some fires in his teammates. Of course those types of players are only respected when they perform on the field. Wells isn't performing so he can't really say anything about his teammates.

"Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

If Houston really has to give up 2-3 top tier prospects, that's an awful deal.

The only way it's worth it is if it tips the team over the edge. Wells has what... one or two good years left, at most? His ERA so far is 4.54... would Oswalt or McKnight really do that much worse if given the starting job?

I think the Astros are a viable playoff team. I don't think they're a world series team. And I *really* don't think Wells will make them one.

The Randy Johnson deal was probably worth it. It didn't pay off, but I thought it was a pretty good bet. If they'd won the world series, Hunsicker would have been called a genius. Sometimes the breaks go against you... no hard feelings.

But in this deal, it SOUNDS like Houston would give up just as much... and get much less in return on a team that's not as close to winning it all.

    Nope.

    Alot of factors here guys.

    1. Why is it that a redneck like Wells loves NY. People who thrive in NY tend to like the spotlight/attention, he may get bored in Houston.

    2. Any deal involving Oswalt is a no-no.

    3. Would they be willing to take Lima like Bob said ? Maybe Lima needs a change of scenery.

    4. We know he has a spare tire, but how much gas is left in the tank ?

    5. Keeley, he could lead ants to a picnic, but he would just eat everything before the ants had a chance.....

Everyone should also note that Wells has always started out poorly for about 8 games with his new teams. After those initial 8, he wins everything. Just an interesting something to keep in mind....He's brand new with the Sox and the same thing happened. Even with the Yanks he only went 5-3 to start. Would you be willing to take a 4-4 start if he won everything come playoff time?

No need to speculate anymore, I heard on the radio this morning that the Astros have released a statment that they are not interested in Wells.
