I heard three weeks ago that Sura's knee was responding poorly from his surgery earlier in the summer. He tried to jog and there was enourmous swelling and fluid buildup in his knee. My guess is that this is a second surgery and last resort. I am not counting on him making any significant contribution this year.
This is truely terrible news and almost confirms CD is tryin to do something....he didn't like the pg situation with sura now without him we almost certainly will make some kind of move... I'm startin a petition against mike james as our point....that would be a complete travesty and throw our rocks about 3 or 4 seasons backwords into the steve and cat days at point........i think I'd rather die than see mj man our point
Gary Payton at 1.1 million would have been great, no? Oh wells... Man, what's up with all this Mike James hate? He doesn't deserve it, if he has to start even though he's not a starting caliber PG, so be it the rest of the guys will have to play better.
Arthoscopic surgery is not that big of a deal, I had a friend who had it done and was playing basketball again (pain free) within 2 weeks. The key thing here is that Sura must be in regular pain, and if he needs a quick cleanup, they could find out that the pain may be permanent. DD
VERY bad news. CD really needs to pull some of his magic again and try to get a decent PG in here sometime in the next month or so. It sounds like Sura might never put on a Rockets uni ever again. Really does suck, as I think he was becoming a fan favorite here in Houston.
Sura's questionable health is one reason I gave our offseason a "B" instead of an "A", and said if we signed DS, and "A" would have applied. This is why standing pat with our backcourt was completely unacceptable. I hate having to depend on someone like DA, who didn't play much last year and, to me, is a somewhat unproven commodity. CD, you need to pull another rabbit out of your hat!
LOL, I love how so many people are calling for Jay Williams. Yea, let's replace one injured pg with a guy a few years removed from a motorcycle crash and lucky to be walking. That'll fix things.
Well, at best case maybe we can hope Sura to be a solid backup this year so he doesn't have the grind of the whole year on his knee. Least case hopefully he could be there for us at playoff time. Worst case would be out for the year. Hoping for the best case.
Well, just a few days ago, there was a blurb about Sura's knees and Rockets concerns in the Chronicle ... Did you hear about Bob Sura? The Rockets are worried enough about his recovery from knee surgery that they're hoping to sign a free-agent point guard or two before the start of camp. If Sura can't go, Mike James probably would be the starter. The Rockets can get by with him because so much of the offense goes through Tracy McGrady, but they'd like to have a prototypical point to run the show.
Mike James if fully capable of being are starting point guard and the Houston Rockets coaching staff and administration all know that, thats why this isn't a big deal or big news. Some of you remember one or two bad games he had in the playoffs and want to see him ran out of town. One or two games does not make the player.
Posted this in the CD on 610 thread: Matt Jackson on now after talking to CD. They are doing surgery on the back of his knee to remove cartilidge. Saying it will speed up his recovery and will make him available sometime between middle October and middle November - at the very worst early December. Sura was down this morning, but the Rockets are hopeful that the procedure will help. They feel that he is just down at the moment because of the problems. Apparently, the Rockets are very high on Moochie (HOLY JEEBUS). He is in, apparently, unbelievable shape - the best ever - and they are completely impressed. Wesley is in terrific shape at the moment and can play some point with DA as well. They knew that this surgery would happen a couple weeks back. Sura was just down because he was hoping it would feel better by now. Many of the Rockets players have been at Toyota Center for a month working out and getting ready for training camp. Apprently, Luther Head is a possibility in terms of getting some time at point as well. JVG not a fan of the developmental league because there is no control over what the players are doing there.
A "scope" isn't that bad but to have a "scope" after just having undergone knee surgery is unusual, particularly since he hasn't played a game and had only been undergoing rehab. This happened last year with his back, reinflammation after surgery and was out for 2 months. Hopefully the prognosis is good after his "scope". Well if the Rox are going to sign Jay Will, its now or never. I don't think its probable, CD is going to be looking for a veteran and immediate help.
Horrible news to me because the Rockets can assign a coach to the Toros to help out if need be...come on JVG, we need some head here in Austin.
Ladies and gentlemen, starting at point guard for your Houston Rockets - Mooooochhhieeee Noooorrrrrissss....
from Jeff: Jeff you're just the reporter here I know. All the reports about Wesley kicking **s hasn't surprised me. He was huge in a 50 win season and may go down as one of the least appreciated Rockets of all time because of the end of the season. But Mooch? We're supposedly pulling out the Mooch card? And we're serious contenders? I hope Tim is safely back wherever, but I also hope he doesn't advise our current marketing staff to say "We'll pay nearly 8 million for hair." Catchy though, isn't it? DA's going to start at pg and that may work out, but it does hurt us unless Head plays real minutes.
I told all of you Sura was having surgery and would be out unitl late Decemver 2 weeks ago... I guess you can believe me now
