With Sura's uncertainty... Who seems to be the best and most aquirable PG for the Rockets at this point? I know this has been discussed before in the forum but with the training camp approaching next week and the season just around the corner, myself as well as other aficionados (i am sure) are getting quite antsy on the issue. To me these two player seem like the best options out there.

i think Jay Will has the upside we are all craving while Mcleod can come in and contribute right away which will probably force our hand, i think right now we will end up with Mcleod while i would prefer Jay Dub.

The following "report" is from a rumor mill which is apparently cencored by this forum.

Oh well this is an exceedingly long offseason, which is great because it also means we have tons to look forward to.

How about Mike James and Jon Barry. and then if need be, Luther Head.

If there is one team that can overcome the loss of Bob Sura for a couple months it is the Houston Rockets. We have an overload of guards. all of them are more than capable of getting the job done.

Barry is that spark we need off the bench at the 2 not a ST or second option PG. DA would be a better option for PG than Barry.

Mike James controls the ball too much to be a starting PG for this team. Too many options on the floor to have him winding the clock down.

Mike James is a sparkplug player who'll give you instant points off of the bench. He is not, however, a tradiitional point guard who can effectively distribute the ball and manage the offense. Granted T-Mac actually ran the offense a lot but still a true point guard would really help this offense since Sura is gone.

McLeod doesnt sound too bad as a guy who can come off the bench and give us a few mins at PG. Iam still not too high on J Will coming here and having any kind of impact.

Its kind of hard for all of us to judge Jay Williams. Obviously we havent seen him work out and we dont know how much he really has recovered from the accident. It's impossible to state his impact without that knowledge. I'll trust Carroll Dawson on this one but speculating about which way theyre going seems impossible because of the dearth of information.

mcleod is the same guy who, either last year or the year before, starting talking alotta mess to the Rockets bench b/c he made a couple shots and thought he was a bada$$. i think he got a technical, and our bench wanted to beat him up.

i remember after the game ppl were still pretty ticked at whatever he said during the game.

that was months ago, so it probably won't be an issue now.

Is there anyone here with friends who are Jazz fans (because NOBODY here would be crazy enough to be a Jazz fan, would they???) and can comment on McLeod's playing style?

Is he a legit PG, or more of a tweener?
    How are his handles? Athleticism?
Can he create his own shot, or is he a catch-and-shoot player only?
Is he capable of driving and penetrating or is he a perimeter player only?
    Can he run a half-court offense and a fast-break?
Can he make an entry pass to the post?
What kind of range does he have on his shot?
How good are his defensive skills? Good team defender? Good man-to-man defender?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

McLeod is not an option. He is a RFA and we can only offer a minimum contract which is lower than the qualifying offer the Jazz gave him. The only way we could get him is through a sign & trade and why would the Jazz do that for us? Especially with news out that Sura is injured. We would get "violated" on the deal so I don't see it happening.

So if Jay Will is saying opportunity is more important to him than money is there any doubt he will be in rockets Uniform come training camp?

what other team can offer him playing time with 2 allstars another lottery pick of the last 5 years and a collection of savvy vetrans.

Then the disarray our point guard position is. With an injury to Sura, and Mike James being better suited to the bench we are going to have Derrick Anderson start at the point? i think looking in from the outside Jay Dub has to think that this could be a real opportunity for him what other playoff contendor has such a hole at the point?
