This terrifies me. Please let him be ok. I love him as a player. I love what he brings to our squad. I want to see him enjoy a healthy year, but on top of all of that, I'm not so confident about our other options at point guard. Can Derek Anderson handle it? I do NOT want to see Mike James as our starting point guard. He's a great guy to come off your bench, but he has too much of a scorers mentality to be the starter with the guys we've got on the floor.

I love Sura's enery. Terrible news. He's a warrior, so if he will quit it has to be really serious.

Having said that, I wouldnt just panic. Should Sura not avail in the new season, thank god we have got DA. Mike James gets the starting job. Put Luther Head on the fast track. If things do go well at guard postions, we can trade at mid-season. At some point of next year or two, we will have to deal with it anyways even with a healthy Sura.

Didn't hear anything about this on 610 or in the print media. I'd be cautious about rushing to conclusions...

Agreed. Not that I don't think Max heard what he heard or anything, but maybe 740 just screwed up ...

I thought Sura wasn't going to be back last year after the back stuff, but was pleasantly surprised by speedy recovery and inspiring play. Hopefully this year will be a repeat but with a stronger finsih.

740 just reported it again. surgery is set for TOMORROW. arthoscopic knee surgery on right knee. out at least 6-8 weeks. maybe forever, if his knee doesn't respond to the surgery right.

i'm not sure bobby sura has bigger fans in houston than in my house. sad to hear this news.

That sucks. He would have been the most valuable guard on the team.

Wasn't it his knee that slowed him down so much at the end of the seaon/playoffs???

I guess whatever they did at the beginning of the offseason didn't work. But then JVG already told us he was worried about Sura's health.

Oh crap. No wonder someone said that if Jay William signed with the Rockets, the off reason would be perfect.

    I want a Head now!

So if he did have to retire how would that affect our salary cap?

I think we get half our salary cap back starting one year after the player retires for medical reasons. That means Sura is like a half-expiring contract. But screw that. I don't want our salary cap back, I want Sura dammit!

I think people who criticized the guy who said Sura was going to be out until mid december owe that man an apology :D

I think his name is ICU9000. I never criticized him. Deep down in my heart I knew he was telling the truth. Now it's time to kill him for being the bearer of bad news. STRING HIM UP!!!! :p

i'm not surprised, given how much van gundy has harped on the health of the guards in offseason interviews. i'm guessing that this is a last ditch effort, kinda like the bagwell surgery, something like the bagwell surgery.

but even if it goes "well", we can't count on any meaningful contribution from sura this year. the DA signing looms even larger.

Yikes, this is big news. Hopefully everything will go to plan and Sura will play again, but even if things go well, won't he be expected to be out at least ti'l December?

I wonder what CD is up to now. I won't be suprised to see a trade go through in the next couple weeks. I want JayWill though, this would be a great opportunity for him and possibly the Rockets.

First off, I would like to hear either some confirmation or clarification as to what exactly the extent of Sura's injury is.

Second, for all those implying if Sura is out for a while to bring in Jay Williams, apparently aren't realizing he isn't ready to play or contribute either.

Jay Will is a nice project player to pick up if you have the luxury of a healthy and deep rotation at the point. We don't have that, what we have is a bunch of SG's that are good ball handlers but not playmakers. There is a difference.

Wow I think I somewhat jinxed it when I started that thread "Are we ready for injuries". I hate to say this but I was somewhat expecting something like this to happen. I know many of us loved the chemistry but if something like this happened after the trading deadline it would have been a major blow to our team's success. Come on Rockets get us a pg that won't be sidelined a quarter to half our season.

Its true, I heard it on 610 today during lunch. They specifically said that his knee wasn't doing well and that he decided to get it scoped one last time (today or tomorrow). They said if it doesn't respond well to this surgery, then his NBA career will be over. They then interviewed David Wesley and Wesley said that Sura didn't sound too optimistic about coming back, but told him to keep his head up basically.

With that being said, I wouldn't panic. I think the rockets have known this all along and are comfortable with Mike James running the show and picking up Jwill or someone else to back him up. DA can also run the point.
