I had a lisfranc fracture last year and I went to see Dr. Jeffery Ross in the Medical Center, he was very helpful and did all he could to help me avoid surgery. He was appointed to Gov. Perry's Advisory Council On Physical Fitness in 2002. 713-791-9521
Go get a second opinion, when you go make sure you bring your MRI (not the report, but the actual films or cd) and any x-rays. You can even ask Dr. Clanton if he knows of any good docs for second opinions or ankle specialists. As an aside, most docs welcome second opinions (by other professionals), and if they don't, then they aren't a good doctor.
Reggietodd, please read this post. I fractured bones and damaged the lisfranc ligament in my foot this year (supposed to be worse than an ankle injury). Have had X-rays, a CT Scan and MRIs. Go get a second opinion. I've seen several doctors over the past nine months and they all have different views of the injury. I've heard everything from, "it would have been malpractice to operate on your foot" to "if it were my foot, I'd have surgery." I live out of town now. But a few years back I saw Kevin Varner for plantar facitits (tendonitits in the bottom of the feet). Varner is currently at the Limb Center at Methodist. When I saw him, he was associated with Walter Lowe at Baylor, the Rockets' doctor. At the time, I Heard Glenn Rice mention Varner's name on television in connection with his foot injury (plantar facitits) when Rice was traded to the Rockets. I thought highly of Varner. He is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the foot and ankle, and sports injuries. I believe that you want to see someone who is a foot and ankle specialist, rather than a generalist, and someone who treats sports injuries. I think a second opinion from Varner might help you. related question: How much is a MRI? I may have to get one.. My calf had been sore for a few days since I was clearing storm damage, and today when I was jumping laterally, I felt something pop in my calf. It hurts when I put my weight on the front of my foot...but not so much otherwise. Anyone else ever experienced this?
MRIs are expensive R2K. I had to pay for a few of those myself. I know they were $1,000 - $1,500 back in the mid 90s.
I'm facing surgery soon on my right shoulder. The one that everybody saw at the BBS basketball game near Behads. Will probably have it in a month.
Do you have insurance? If not, getting an MRI would be an expensive proposition. You first have to go see the doc (probably $50), then an x-ray (~$25-100), and if needed and MRI (~$2000-3000). From what you describe, if the pain is in the calf muscle and you can walk normally; I wouldn't be too worried.
I'm having surgery 1st thing christmas break, torn tissue in my right shoulder, it'll be the same guy that did my knee, Dr. Hicks, he's out in sugarland. 12 weeks and I'm back, sounds like a sweet deal to me.
crap. oh well...guess I just deal with it then. Without insurance...even getting it checked out is prohibitively expensive..guess I'll just try to keep from straining it any further and hope time heals. Now I just have to figger out how I'm gonna hold a 220 average in league while limping to the line. Well...I wouldnt say I can walk normally....I can limp normally. Im heavily favoring that leg right now...but it just happened yesterday, so Im hoping it is just a strain/sprain and not a torn ligament or something.
