maguire has been in some excellent movies....seabiscuit and cider house rules come to mind.

and his original contract was only for 3 movies. that's what they all agreed to.

I personally wouldn't typecast him as "Spiderman", even if he was in 10 of them, but that just me.

Don't get me wrong. I think he plays the part well, but he has proven capable in other roles.

Can you think of some decent young actors, who could replace him?

    Jason Lee? Wait...He's Earl. Nevermind.

Nope, it's still the same guy who did 1 and 2, Sam Raimi...hehe Joel Smuckmaker is one of the worst current directors ever!

How so? I mean, if they stick to the original comics, then yeah, it'll be hard for spidey to get costume in the secret wars( ), but it could be done fairly easily other ways.

In the cartoon series the suit came from the moon and hitched a ride with some astronauts back to earth(Jameson's crew).

In the "rebirth" comic, they have the suit being made by peter and brock in a science lab.

The exact origin isn't important, imo, it's the character that is. And Venom would look hella more badass than that lame Green Goblin suit. :D

there's just something about Venom that seems so "out there" compared to traditional spiderman villains. i don't know that i can articulate it very well.

the best part of spiderman is that he's this vulnerable character..that there's character development. i'm afraid focus on venom would take away from that.

but i hope to be pleasantly surprised.

imo, the introduction of Venom, at least the one in the comics, emphasized even more how vulnerable spidey is. Venom was like De Niro in Cape Fear with how obsessed he was. He stalked him, toyed with him mentally and physically, and scared the **** out of spidey.

Of course later on Venom became a puss with weak motivation so they could try to sell comics on his character alone, but eh, that's not the Venom they should focus on.

Damn. Tobey Maguire must remind you of someone who owes you money. Or you must have been looking for a very, very, very specific movie. I liked Spider-Man 2. Not as good as Bourne Supremacy, to be sure, but nothing dipped as low as the dregs of Van Helsing or Chronicles of Riddick.

I just really hated the dialogue. It was all so stilted, cliche, and well, boring. I dunno, I really like some cheesy movies e.g. True Lies, but it just didn't work for me for some reason. I definitely agree with you about Van Helsing and Riddick for sure. The highlight of Riddick was definitely Vin Diesel bellowing "get your ass mo-VING!" The guy's not only a terrible actor, he can't even emphasize the right syllables.

the dialogue reads like a comic book. it "sounds" like a comic book to me. i think that's largely intentionaly. pretty corny when she says, "go get 'em tiger." but that's just what MJ says to Peter Parker...

To me, it would be more out there to have the Sandman as a villain. Venom is just Spidey on roids but Sandman has those powers that would either look fantastic on screen, or extremely cheesy.

Basically, like in X2, Iceman never really shot beams of ice out like he would in the comic books because that's a little too unbelievable (even for a comic book movie). If Topher (who, of the two, should be playing Sandman) morphs his puny hand into a gigantic mace, I am going to laugh heartily.

I thought Venom was Spider-man when the symbiote suit was on him, so he became infinitely stronger but also affected mentally...?

I thought Carnage was the reincarnation of the symbiote suit on one of Spidey's enemies which actually terrorized Spidey. I thought Venom was just Spidey being a jerk?

Naaaa . . .Spidey had the symbiote .. and was stronger and didn't need
the web slingers anymore. . . . however once he found out it was alive
    he rejected it .. .

The Symbiote limped and found Eddie Brock [i think that is the name]
they had something in common . .they hated Spiderman
[Eddie brock was a reporter . .and spidey proved on of his storys wrong and ruined his career]

    This new combination was VENOM

Carnage was a combination of the Spawn [child] of the symbiote
and a prisoner that was in the cell with Brock [Kassady i think]
    who was mentally unstable

I thought the set up was to make Jamerson's son VEnom
    [going into space and all]
