Anyone else catch last night's collapse at home against Tennessee? The Tigers were up 21-0 at halftime and 24-7 going into the 4th. But their offense sputtered, turned the ball over twice, and their defense fell apart in the 4th. Eerily similar to the 35-7 lead that he blew in Austin last year. Before taking over at Oklahoma State, he didn't have any head coaching experience. Granted, he did a tremendous job in Stillwater taking a program that was on life support and turning it into a perennial 8-9 win team. He really hit the national scene after exposing Bob Stoops in 2001 and 2002 in the Bedlam games. He loves to take chances and throw downfield. He really utilized Rashaun Woods and got everything out of QB Josh Fields. The belief around the LSU brass was probably that if Les can get that much production out of a group of two stars, imagine what he could do with the talent that Nick Saban has put together the last few years. Problem is that other than some hard fought wins against a rival, Miles really isn't that great of a coach and is in way over his head. He's a last second bomb away from being 0-2 right now.
Tenesseee was the better team last night. They shouldn't have been in that position although LSU did collaspe. Just be happy UT isn't playing that SEC schedule. Tenessee is going to play Notre Dame after already playing Florida and LSU.
You sound like a Tiger fan, so I can understand your upset. But by this logic, he is really a couple of minutes away from being 2-0 as well.
that game totally reminded me of the Texas game last year. that guy is an average coach that likes to take chances. it payed off a couple of times against OK. he will get eaten up in the SEC. now mackie brown and stoops can get some good recruits out of LA again. how do you think ryan perilloux feels about now??? that guy could be redshirting behind VY and taking over the program NEXT YEAR at Texas. nice one...
I don't think it was Les Miles collapsing so much as it was the Clausen mistique taking over. Never bet against a Clausen, NEVER.
Perilloux is a joke. That guy made a mockery of recruiting and I hope he never gets to see the field.
As a Texas Ex, I was thrilled to see LSU lose. The last thing we need is another situation like last year, where Auburn, OU, and USC all finished up undefeated. Either way, the Tigers did a piss poor job of ball control and killing clock in the 4th quarter. Greg Davis might be one of the poorest play callers in the nation, but you won't see him throwing downfield deep in his own territory with a big lead late in the game.
i couldn't agree more. i'm merely hoping that he feels like a jacka$$ (at least a little bit) at this point for his actions. Baqui: as a Texas Ex (i'm one also) you should be concerned about florida. if they run the table, and Texas and USC are also undefeated, there's NO WAY IN HELL the longhorns will deserve to play in the rosebowl over the gators. take a look at their sched v. Texas' sched in the ultraWEAK big 12. the bcs committe will not screw an SEC team two years in a row -- and they shouldn't. hell, VANDY could be ranked by the time UF plays them...
For the schedule as a whole, Florida's is tougher. But Texas has a win over an absolutely dynamic opponent - Ohio State - on the road and in prime time on national television. I don't think wins over Tennessee or LSU will be nearly as impressive as the OSU victory away from home. I think that win is the type that will stick with the minds of voters whenever someone tries to knock Texas on their schedule.
LOL - hornfan envy of LSU. Sorry they took your prized recruit from you last year. Don't worry, though. Next year your starting quarterback's last game snap will have been from 2A high school ball.
i agree that the tOSU win will be an important part of Texas' chances (provided they beat OK, aTm, etc.), but florida's sched is deep from top to bottom (with the possible exception of UK.) i think south carolina might be a trap for them, actually. either way, this could me a REALLY BAD YEAR for the bcs.
VaTech could be in a similar position as well, with wins over Miami and presumably FSU in the ACC title game if they run the table. Texas really needs Tech to do well - they are already up at #15 or so, and with their schedule in the B12, they have a chance to lose just 1 or 2 games. A&M doing well wouldn't hurt either, with that game closing out the season and being a big road game. All that said, as long as Texas doesn't look unimpressive in any of its wins (and doesn't lose, obviously), I think they are in good shape. It's going to be hard for them to fall from #2 in either of the polls, and without that, I think it will be hard for them to be leapfrogged.
Agree that UF looks pretty good so far. No way does Florida run the table with this schedule: 2005 Schedule DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME 09/03 Wyoming W 32-14 09/10 La Tech W 41-3 09/17 #5 Tennessee W 16-7 09/24 at Kentucky W 49-28 10/01 at #15 Alabama 3:30 PM 10/08 Miss St 12:30 PM 10/15 at #4 LSU TBD 10/29 #7 Georgia TBD 11/05 Vanderbilt TBD 11/12 at S Carolina TBD 11/26 #6 Florida St 3:30 PM They still have to play at LSU and at Bama, both tough road games. Their defense gave up 28 to Kentucky last weekend. Not to mention that the SEC Championship game is always a battle.
That's assuming Vince leaves early, which he will only do if the Horns win a national championship this season. I'll be very happy with that.
Oh come on. Florida barely beat a very mediocre Tennessee team. And before you start on the "Tennessee beat LSU" line let's just admit that both those teams are overrated. Florida probably won't even get through the SEC undefeated, but if they do that doesn't mean they are a better team. If Florida ends up undefeated and USC is undefeated as well, should Florida get the nod because their schedule was tougher. Come on now. There's a reason that none of the analysts are talking about Florida as a national title contender, and that's because Chris Leak isn't that good and neither are the Gators. If any team should be worried about running the table and getting locked out, it's Va Tech. This team has looked downright filthy so far. Coming off a weekend where they CRACKED the 15th team in the country they're the ones who should be getting consideration over UT if anyone does...
I will start by admitting mu bias - I am an LSU alum who hates USC. I could see a scenario where UT, UF, VT and USC all win out. If that happens, I would say VT and UF had the toughest schedule and should play in the Rose Bowl. However, there is no way SC gets left out. That said, I would love for ASU to hand it to SC this weekend.
Va Tech is the team to be worried about with a stronger Big East. I said this in the Oklahoma/TCU thread, all you Horns celebrating A&M's and OU's losses weren't thinking about the future. The only team you need to be rooting for to beat those teams is us. We need a strong Big XII.
first, i agree that both UT and UF are overrated teams. in my original post i stated IF florida wins out, they might get the nod because of their schedule. Texas is CLEARLY a better team, but they don't really play anyone this year that's any good. that being said, i'm not sure they can beat OK OR aTm (i'm a VERY jaded Texas Ex.) second, i also agree that VT is the scariest team in college football outside of USC and Texas (i still think tOSU is a great team also.) finally, the analysts don't know squat about anything. neither do any of us. it's merely conjecture. it's something to talk about and nothing else. that's why auburn got screwed by starting out so far back in the polls (17?) i personally hope USC, Texas, VT, AND UF all go undefeated. i love the controversy of the bcs. the more controversy, the better chance of a playoff sometime in the future (i know, i know...i'm a dreamer.) damn i love college football!
1.) Va Tech is in the ACC. 2.) i root for all big 12 teams unless they're playing Texas (even OK and aTm!)
