It seems Iverson always has nice things to say about Yao. When does he (Allen) become a free agent? :)

    AI wants the 'big one'
    Iverson still craves NBA championship

SHANGHAI, China (AP) - Even after the scoring titles, the Olympics, Most Valuable Player awards and rookie of the year honours, Allen Iverson still craves the "big one."

"I have the same goal every year. And that's just to win a championship," the Philadelphia 76ers point star told reporters during a visit to Shanghai.

"I've accomplished a lot of individual goals in my career ... But I haven't accomplished the main goal, which is to win a championship and that's all I focus on every season," said Iverson, now set to enter his 10th season in the NBA.

Visiting China's largest city on a promotional tour, Iverson was asked whether his chances of accomplishing that goal would be boosted by a partnership with Shanghai's hometown hero Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets. The answer: No question.

"I think if Yao Ming was on my team, we'd probably have a 100 per cent chance of winning an NBA championship," Iverson said.

That's easy to say, but making it happen is another story. Ask Jeff Van Gundy, Steve Francis, and Tracy McGrady about that.

i hope the iverson signs with houston for the minimum when he becomes a free-agent.

as soon as iverson signs on the dotted line; van gundy will kidnap him from his home, strap him in a straight jacket, and force him to watch old video tapes of john stockton, and bob cousy until he finally understands how a point guard should play.

I think everyone understand that he was complimenting Yao as he was asked by chinese reporter during his visit to Shanghai. But I am sure sina will take it seriously and make it like a big news. ;)

The guy has been praising Yao Ming for the last 2 years. it isn't like that is the first positive quote he has ever made about him. They asked him about Yao a year or so ago after a Rockets/76ers game and he said Yao was like a gift from god.

LOL! Exactly my initial reaction. AI is in Yao's hometown, he's just "being nice", that's all.

AI should work for the State Department ;)

This isn't just AI giving lip service. He's praised Yao Ming in the States as well, calling him a gift from God in the past. Everybody knows that unless you're Jordan, you need a big man/interior presence to win the title.

*EDIT* : oops, Millenium beat me to it... :)

Maybe Yao should start saying, "If Iverson was on my team we could win a championship."

There wouldn't be enough shots to go around; either Iverson would have to dispose himself to more of a PG-role, or otherwise McGrady.

Iverson could be a good PG for us if he's willing to play that role. He has the passing ability, ball handling skills and a great shot. A toughness the Rockets needs.

EDIT: ahh, screw it...long posts about one exaggerated hyberbole compliment is overkill. I'm sure AI is genuine about his past comments to Yao, but that last one is putting a little too much Kikkoman's on top. Just my 2 cents.

AI wants Yao because Yao is very talented, but would not take away any of his shots. It would be cool to have Yao, T-Mac, Swift, and AI all on one team though .

I have to give AI some credit, he has matured and has put his gangsta days behind him. Part of that maturity is saying the right thing about a countrys national hero in the country of that national hero.

    Ah it makes sense now.

that 3 for 1 must be Wesley + Baker + Mooch for AI.

Please don't throw in a 1st rounder though CD.
