i feel like im in a castle thats on fire and its spreading quickly, surrounded by a wide trench in which the bridge has burned... this sucks
Were staying in our house in Humble, off of greens road. We have lots of pine trees around our house, and they said the winds around hear should be around 65mph sustained, and gusts up to over 75. We live in a small 2 bedroom wood-sided house built in the 60's. We have too many pets, and can't leave them behind, also the traffic sucks. Hopefully the damaged wont be too bad when this is all over.
I'm riding it out. I was somewhat packed, but the storm weakening and turning and some newscasters misinforming me by saying that it was too late to get out last night kept me here. I had figured that the roads would clear out enough around 3 this morning to actually get somewhere in a car with a 13 gallon gas tank - and I was right. Oh well - it would have been a long boring ride to Dallas anyway.
My parents are starting to freak out as Rita gets closer and now want to bunker down with my sister and I at my house, which is closer to the coast. I'm trying to talk them out of it.
Ditto, that traffic on I-10 was insane I live in New Territory too. I think we might have it easier compared to other in Houston. Count me in for the ride.

Where will you guys be sleeping tonight? The rest of my family got out of town a couple of days ago. I'll be sleeping in either the interior hallway on the floor or in an adjoining bathroom, likely with my cat. I'm also watching a family members dog. He'll stay in the washing machine room. I couldn't get ahold of D batteries for my radio, but I have a walkman ready that also gets tv channels on it.
Were going to be staying in our interior hall on the SW side of the house with our pets. We got our windows boarded, and pretty much prepared as much as we can be. I dont know if we will be able to get much sleep tonight while its going on though.
I'm gonna let my sister sleep in the downstairs bathroom (safest room in the house). I'm gonna ride it out behind the couch in the living room or in the kitchen (under lots of covers)
