I would prefer to leave to Dallas where some of my friends lives but is it worth leaving? My friend left from Fuqua south 45 area last nite at 1am and right now as I'm typing (11:12am) is only at Huntsville and is running out of gas. He said there's some people out there that's out of gas or their car has over heated. So is it better to just stay and ride thru it or take a chance of being strained out there with no gas because I'm asumming all the small stations out there in Huntsville/ Buffalo are out of gas tooo with so many people leaving the days before. I'm not worry about the driving time to get up to Dallas I'm more worry about running out of gas 1/3 or half way there.
Where do you live? I would wait for a few hours at the very least. I'm staying pretty much in dowtown Houston for now. May leave later on tonight, but looking less and less likely.
the wait to get on westpar near 1464 was like 1.5 hours. and i was just asking some ppl as i passed them by how long theyve been there... i dunno man... im not afraid of the hurricane blowin us up or anything, but what I am afraid of is the lack of electricity and water. so maybe ill leave after it passes through
My brother turned back, he went 20 miles in 7.5 hours. He also mentioned the overheated cars and the ones out of gas....it's crazy
I finally got through to my parents on their cell phone. They left Sugar Land at 5:30 am. It's now 1:30 over there and they are passing by the Woodlands. I'm really hoping that now that they opened up the freeways they can start to make progress. This is so frustrating when you are 2000 miles away from loved ones.
Since they already closed down south bound on 45, why can't they just make it north bound too so the traffic would be a little better?
Thats why they closed it down. They have been getting ready to open up the south side to go north bound. I think they said itll open up around 6 pm. It'll help the traffic ALOT!
the # 1 priority of the Gov. is to get gas out to those who need it...so if i were you i would leave within the next 8-9 hours...or else its too late....my dad just left from the I-10 and Highway 6 area around two hours ago...i guess he will be in Dallas Friday night!
Let me preface: Yes, it is better to be safe than sorry. People living in the mandated evacuation areas should have left no later than yesterday. The hysteria in Houston associated with Rita is amazing. Never seen anything like it. For this many people to evacuate is insane. Rita will go down in history even though the local damage will be minimal. Some media outlets should be ashamed of themselves. I do give props to the weather guys at Ch.2 & Ch.11 this morning who focused on giving out facts instead of trying to whip people up into a frenzy. I'm NOT an anti-media crusader, but this whole mess has left me pretty disgusted. KTRH has lost almost all credibility with me. I will never trust them again in a time of crisis.
FYI, the mayor and Judge Eckels said that if you don't live in a flood/evacuation zone that right now you should not leave. The most recent location and track has it continuing to go east, now with the eye over Beaumont, so people in the North and West suburbs, etc. are adding to the gridlock and hurting people in the bad places. I thought that was interesting. Basically, unless things get worse, you should stay home.
Whole heartedly agree. Just found out that the family that lives next door to my parents in Sugar Land are headed down south to Mexico. I wonder why nobody else heads down there to like Nuevo Leon or something?
The jerkheads should have said this about 9 hours ago. They thought they were covering themselves by being overly cautious. Now MayorBill and Eckels realize the backlash that could be coming from the hysteria and flipflopped.
we're still leaving in a couple of hours from spring. they now expect the storm to stall and dump rain for several days afterwards, so we're saying f*ck it, let's go. now mind you our biggest motivation here is that we have a perfectly good house in san marcos that is practically being unused (my rommate and his g/f are the only ones there). i just cant justify staying here w/ no electricity or water for probably 3 or 4 days w/ potential flooding when we can live quite comfortably there. plus 290 is supposedly clearing up a bit, and they're still expecting to open up the other lanes. oh yeah.... i also have fri. and sat. ACL tix waiting for me....
