I have procured a service from a professional yet her continues to stall and procrastinate. I have tried being nice but the VENOM is beginning to hit the back of my throat. I NEED THIS DONE ASAP. I don't want to go through litigation and I want him to do a good job. [I worry he may just throw something together at the last minute if I force his hand.] My first mistake was paying him upfront. I know that now and will not duplicate this one unless absolutely necessary. He has become a bottle neck in my business processes and that is unacceptable. I am attempting to stay calm about the situation but maybe that too is a mistake. Do I need to simply light a fire under his*ss or continue with the sugar coated thing? What is the best way to get a person to Do their fricking job? He is not my employee but he is my . .. contractor I guess. Rocket River
Calmly tell him exactly what you told us, make it factual and businesslike. "Bob, I hired you for this because I admire your work but us to be sucessful you have to meet these deadlines, if you don't I'll have to hire someone else to do it" Also ask him if there is a reason he isn't reaching his goals (personal problems) or if there is something you can do to help him ( understanding his role or lack of resources). You might end up eating your up front fee as a cost of learnng your business. But as always, the only motivation tools you have are the carrot and the stick: Carrot: finish and get a bonus! (or just paid if you hadn't paid up front) Stick: don't finish and get fired (in this case he still has the money but there is still some stigma and no future money)
Thanks. He has given me a reason why. He basically just tells me what he needs to complete and that he haven't had the time to do them. [basically some drawings] Now with the hurricane in the vicinity I feel this will be used as another [abeit valid maybe] excuse to string this out a while longer. My deadline for him is now beginning to merge into other deadlines and I called my self being smart by allowing some leeway in the timelines. [I didn't communicate that to him . . .I had been stressing efficient and quick for a while] Rocket River
Set up a face to face and get it all documented as to a date of completion and production schedule. Then shcedule a follow up face to face. People get wimpy in these type situation andget it done. Also, give him an out if he can't detemrine a time of completion, sometimse contractors are happy to get out of a project and will be glad to give your money back.
Wow. Considering you've been a member for 5 years, you've certainly taken a shine to posting recently.
Yes I did tell him my time line but NO I did not set a hard and fast date. I ASS -U-MEd that seeing my time line he would get the point. .. but that was my mistake Rocket River
