Okay i am having this argument with one of my bartenders who was a cheerleader through high school. She got into a discusion with a customer that said it wasn't a sport and i agreed that it is not a spor so i told her i would post it here to get the definate answer on this subject....your input is greatly appreciated...hahah
My stepdaughter does competitive cheerleading so I've been to quite a bit of competitions. I voted definitely yes it is. Check out this link --->Pro X ......her coach is a member of this Pro X group. You should watch the clips before you decide. Also, this probably isn't the best place to ask. I'm assuming the consensus among a bunch of guys is going to be no, that it isn't a sport. I'll probably be the only one to vote yes...hehe.
It's a sport as long as your squad actually goes to the competitions and competes against others. Sure there is some judging involved, but same with lots of other sports... gymnastics, figure skating, certain "X Games" events like snowboarding... and it definitely requires a high level of physical fitness and strength, as well as lots of acrobatics that most of us couldn't do even if we were in shape.
Damn right its a sport. If she keeps her outfit off a dorm room floor for 6 hours after the game thats a world record.
If judges decide who wins instead of the participants then I don't consider it a sport. The only exception may be boxing, but at least the participants had a chance to decide the outcome, I would rather them just declare a draw if both fighters are standing at the end of a match.
Man so much golf hate. I had this exact arguement about golf with my roommate just yesterday actually. Anyways, I voted yes, because it is competitive and they have practiced and worked hard to be good at something they do. It is physically/mentally challenging and emphasizes the team concept. The only thing I can take away from it, and the only arguement you can make about golf not being a sport, is the lack of direct competition.
Golf/Nascar, both not sports in my book Cheerleading...nice to look at hot chicks, and I agree with most, its a competition.
Yeah, I think is a sport but is a different kind of sport, because you do exercise and has rules established before and has competitions. and you have to train a lot to be good at it.
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (which I grew up with) sponsors all the "usual" sports plus golf, wrestling, bowling, and cheerleading. However, the one I competed in, swimming, has been discontinued. We were actually racing against each other and the clock with an electronic timing system... pretty easy to see who wins... but I guess that doesn't count. For the record, I'd rather watch ice skating or even cheerleading (and the girls do nothing for me) than bowling or a spelling bee... how is that a sport?
Wow. The "b" in wnba = basketball, which is a sport. You probably rate really high with the ladies don't ya'? And the answer to the poll is "yes." How many of you couch potatoes can do half the stuff a competitive cheerleader does? Some of you think drinking is a sport.
Define sport NO IMO See Nascar, horse racing [a sport for horses but not the humans riding them] Rocket River
