I would actually enjoy winning a Superbowl most, but I know that won't be for a long time w/ the Texans. Either way, the Rockets are my fav team, and they should make the most noise next season.
This is kind of a silly poll due to it's location. A large portion of the fans who frequent this board aren't even from Houston but for whatever reason love our Rockets. Then there are a healthy number of Rockets fans here, like myself, who could care less about any sport other than basketball. It's going to be a landslide victory for the Rocktets. If you made this poll on an Astros fan message board, it'd be a landslide for the Astros and on a Texans board it'd be a landslide for the Texans, because each board is going to draw people who live and breathe that particular sport.
It is kinda silly for this to be in a basketball forum but I would actually vote for the Rox last! Here's why--the Rox have the best chance out of the 3 so if they won, I'd be ecstatic...but just for them. If the 'Stros were to win in Clemens last year (after losing Beltran) or the Texans won when they're such a long-shot, it'd be nothing short of miraculous and I'd be that much happier for the whole H-town sports scene b/c the Rockets would still be favorites in years to come...make sense??
It's hard for people to vote for the Texans because they stink so bad and are the furtherest away by far. But if you could put that out of your mind, I think most of us know winning a Super Bowl would turn this town upside down more than anything else. I love my Rox, but I'm the only Rox diehard on the job. That's why I need you guys. I could talk Texans with my customers until I'm blue in the face on my sales calls. Very few of them care about the Rox.
I vote for Rockets, , but it's bias to pool on this site for this question, When you do a poll, you need a little bit of statistic
Wrong. Here is my opinion Boston, Red Sox > Celtics > Bruins > Pats. (however, with the Pats winning all the time, It may be second on the radar. New York, Yankees > ____ > Knicks > Giants > Jets > Rangers > Mets > Islanders. Actually, you may want to put Devils in front of Mets. Miami, Dolphins > Heat > 'canes Football > Marlins > Panthers.
In Texas, football will be king in my lifetime. The NBA has turned off so many people I know (five hoophead uncles too) and that did sort of bottom out in JVG's first year here because of the miserable play, and the fact that most teams make the playoffs and most of them are foodfish. Now that the Eastern Conference has four good teams (finally) is great. But a straight 1-16 seeding system would suit the NBA far better than the Conference system. With guaranteed contracts, the NBA is much more static than the NFL and NBA teams are far more hamstrung by poor decisions. Of course, in the NBA we're talking about only 330 roster spots but that also limits the pool in terms of the guys that come from nowhere and impact a team's fortunes. This thread really does belong in the Dish because at this given moment in time I actually believe MLB even has a leg up on the NBA. Not just in Houston, but in terms of $$$$$$$$'s and popularity.
I'm sorry, even if you are joking, I MUST share this Bill Simmons quote with you. "I'm possitive that if you went around the streets of any WNBA team's city, and randomly asked people who lived there if they would rather have a WNBA championship or find $5.00 on the ground somewhere, I'm sure most people would take the $5.00." I'm not from Houston, but this sums up my feelings exactly. So though I'm not from Houston, I'll still share my Houston Sports opininon: No one likes the Astros (I'm a Cubs fan, so they are 2nd on the listsof "teams I hate the most in baseball, only behind the Cards). The Texans aren't anywhere close to being contenders just yet (but I'm a Raiders fan, so I'll just shut up now). So it's our Rox by default. But, it's also the Rox because THEY WILL WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP FOR HOUSTON THIS YEAR!
The comets are the best franchise in the city, a testament when you consider the so called basketball fans have turned their back on them, which makes it that much more impressive they did it. With no support from you, they took 4 titles and shoved it down everyones throat. 4 titles, in a row. The yare the best team in the city. No one is even close.
It's funny just a couple of seasons ago it looked like the Texans was the team with the upside that would most likely win a championship first, with the Rockets being last with that streetball backcourt of theirs. That was before Beltran, Clemens, and some guy named Tracy. I love the Rockets the most and can't wait for the upcoming season, but I would like to see the Astros win one just for guys like Bagwell and Biggio. The Rockets a very very very close second.....and that third team would have to gain my respect again for me to even care about. I could see it now "Astros win world series, Drayton pulls a Marlins 97 and has a garage sale"
I think it's a bit bias for this question on this site. The Rockets and bball are my fav team and sport but seeing the Astros or Texans win it would be just as nice since we've never even been to the big dance in those sports. I do think Houston is definitely more a football town than anything...just look at the so-so Texans with sold-out games all season.
That may well be, but even my mother who is both a rabid sports fan, and a rabid feminist conceded recently, while watching the Comets play Sacramento in the Western Conference Finals, "You know, womens basketball just isn't much fun to watch." I just think womens pro basketball is kind of a niche sport with a good following in the gay and lesbian communities and kind of a small cult following elsewhere. As far as the original question goes. I think the Astros winning the series would be biggest for the city. The Rockets already have a couple banners and the Texans have just not been here long enough as yet.
not to spin this off into another thread, but I agree. I don't enjoy women's hoops at all. I'm not a biggot or anything, just, the level of play is no where on par of it. The pro-woman's league probablly isn't even on the same level as most D2 or D3 college men's teams. Most people aggree too as ticket sales are down league wide, as are tv ratings.
Oilers forever!!!! they broke my heart numerous in the early 90's but... they were Da Team back in da days. Damn you Budd Damn you.
Problem with this POLL is that this is a Rockets Fan Site, how do you expect the results to not be in the Rockets favor. Thats like taking a presidential poll at a major riot.
This poll is kind of dumb, considering this is a ROCKETS forum. Go to a Texans forum, and the Texans would win the poll. Same with the Stros etc....
You guys might think the answers to this poll will be biased, and I agree they might, but what I must say is that the bbs is the best for Rockets, Astros, and Texans
