With our current lineup, what does everybody think our chances are of beating San Antonio in a 7 game series.. personally, out of the west, i think we have the best chance. our defense is comparable, our offense is comparable, now all that needs to be seen is how Swift plays out. i cant see him playing any worse than he did in memphis, and he will undoubtedly improve. at that production, he will be all we need. if our team can rise to the occasion, i think we have a fair chance.
I think we can. the key, just keep their guards out of the lane. Swift should help out in that area. oh yeah, and yao ming has to stay on the court. if he's only giving us under 30 minutes again we're not going to make it out of the first round.
I think we finally have enough talent to do so. I mean, we had the talent to beat them before, but not in a 7 game series. Now whether they will or not is a whole different issue. SA is too good to not have too many things not go your way(refs, d and o slumps, bad coaching decisions, injuries, etc) and still come out with a W.
We played the regular season series to a 2-2 tie with lesser players. We can beat them or anyone in the league in a 7-game series.

Yes. The Spurs have a weak chin. They tend to crumble or at least stumble when teams fight back. See their recent history vs the lakers and pistons. The Spurs are certainly very good, don't get me wrong, but they usually grind you down or outlast you rather than dominate. And they have been known to give away games and choke under pressure. We have the talent and chemistry, and a road assassin in Mcgrady who can take over games no matter where he's playing. The Spurs for all their successes, haven't had a tremendous road record the past couple of years. So yes, we can beat the Spurs.

I cannot agree more that the Spurs are fallible. They often choke, and their superstar leader often chokes. It's easy to overlook that, but ask any honest Spurs fans out there, and they'll concur. I mean I guess you could say we choked last year in the playoffs too, but that's a whole different story altogether.
i have to agree here. td is not exactly clutch. that shot against LA was clutch, but besides that he hasnt been too clutch. ginobili and horry are the guys to look out for.
until we prove otherwise spurs are head and shoulders above us. and to say we were 2-2 in the regular season is absurd. regular season doesn't matter.
I know it was just one game, and it was in December, but seriously, we have to have a mental edge on them from the McMiracle, don't we??
I dont know I feel like the Spurs are the weakest champions we have had in quite some time. There is something about the Spurs that makes you feel like you can beat them. Of course they come out and hand one to you anyways. But for some reason whenever we play the Spurs I feel confident we can take them down. The Spurs have won the championship but they dont have that championship aura of invincibility the Bulls/Celtics/even the recent Lakers had. I think out of any team in the league we have the best chance to stop San Antonio just because of the matchups. TMac > Manu Yao < TD (for now) Then the rest is up in the air.. is TParker = DA? I think we have alot of weapons now and if it comes down to a 7 game series I think every team fears us. That fear is what teams dont have against SA. No one fears them. J
The two keys to beating the Spurs are: 1) Keep Tony Parker in check. Duncan and Ginobli will get theirs. It's Parker who worries me given our weak perimeter defense. When he plays poorly, the Spurs are a very beatable team. 2) Yao has to dominate. Neither Rasho nor Nazr can guard the guy. If Yao steps up, Duncan will be forced to work hard at both ends of the floor(Swift can help here as well). Otherwise, we match up really well with them. They don't have anyone who can guard T-Mac. Even Bowen with all his dirty tactics looks helpless out there.
I think a big factor is being thougher than they are. They don't like to be messed with. None of them showed they have the stones to step up for one another. I know it was a few years ago, but remember how Stevie would step up when a guy would try and mess with a teammate (most noteably, Karla Malone vs. Boki the first round). That's why I loved Steve and will always respect him (even if he wasn't a great player, he'd fight for his guys). I see that a lot on our team now with the chemistry. I'm not advocating going out there and throwing cheap shots. I'm just saying be tough, give a hard fould when a guy goes to the lane. Push before they push, and then we will have the victory. Thats how Detriot won any games against them. Heck, they would have won the series had not Big Shot Rob put the team on his back and say "fine, I'll be the guy with the stones to do it." But Rob was that guy. Who else on that team does that?? Parker?? fades in every playoffs.....besides, he's from France (that's just a joke, I'm an American, and not really a big fan of the French) Manu?? maybe, but I think Mac can keep him in check TD-can't really hit those foul shots, and besides that shot vs. the Spurs (before Fisher's) what other clutch shots has he hit? great player, but I'm not giving it to him in a clutch situation. Finley-can be a killer, but is getting up there in age. I think a DA or a Wesly, or even a Bob Sura checks him also. Barry--easy, we throw Big Brother at him, that always mess up the little bro NVE--now there might be an issue...I think MJ could stay with him, or maybe even throw Luther Head out there to stay with him on the last few possessions or something. Just a consideration. I think MAYBE that NVE might be the killer and guy with stones on this team.....well, be sides..... Big Shot Rob---I think we all know the answer to this.....he is one of the clutchest players ever. He gets open shots yes, because of his star teamates are covered. But the man still has to hit the shots...just don't leave him open, ask Rasheed what happens then.
Can we beat San Antonio? Does a one-legged duck swim in circles? Do fat dogs fart? Does the pope wear a funny hat?
I would add that we have to jump on them early in SA. The crowd there is tremendous, but quiets down pretty good when the Spers are behind early in the game, as long as you keep them from catching up. When they tie the game, or get within a point or two, the crowd is deafening. My brother-in-law has good season tickets, so I've been able to come down from Austin for the Spers/Rockets games the last few years. Can we beat them? Hell yes, but it would be brutal, take 7 games, and we'd have no room for error. They can be taken by this Rockets squad, if we're healthy. SA is the class of the league, as painful as that is to say, but it's become our turn... this season, or next. Probably, almost certainly another year away, but you never know. You have to play the games.
