Anyone heard any development on the Shamrock Tower downtown?? Or Ballpark Place?? 2 projects we've been hearing about for years now, with no progress in construction.
If I recall correctly, wasn't the Shamrock Tower selling their prospects out of a mobile-trailer-like unit on a parking lot at Main and Preston?
Were? They're gone now? I was about to offer to walk down there and ask them about progress and status.
I recall that a couple of the regular D & D denizens were involved with that project (Krosfyah and Uprising?) So you might want to check with them or post this in the D & D. You can make up something controversial like "GW Bush calls for Christian Shamrock tower to defeat terrorism."
I thought TC's Ballpark Place was one of the first casualties of Enron/ 9/11 here in Houston. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/special/enron/dec01/1174008 Did someone pick it up again since then?
oomp -- that article indicates the project was being "put off." not terminated. the signs are still out near the ballpark indicating they will eventually build. i have my doubts.
I'm afraid I don't have much info for you. The original Chronicle article about it stated that , "The developer is not expected to break ground on the project until about 30 percent of the units are sold, Huffine said. If the development proceeds as planned, the building would be ready for occupancy in 2006." But that artcicle was from February of 2004 Eight months ago, the Chronicle mentioned it again saying, "It's still unclear when construction will begin on the 32-story building planned on a prime Main Street block catty-corner from the Rice Lofts. Realtor Roger Huffine said he's in the process of converting more than 100 reservations into hard sales contracts. Nearly 70 percent of the 264 units have been reserved, he said, and 30 contracts were in the title company as of last week. Prices started around $170,000." That's about all the info I could find.
EDIT: ignore my post. Drox just said the same thing...but better. I heard that they were having problems getting committments on occupancy. I think they needed to get like 50% of the places sold before they would break ground. If they don't get enough pre-sales, it probably won't get built. There was also a complete redesign that occured that resulted in additional delays.
Forget about those two towers. Probably the biggest news for downtown will be the Houston Pavilions project and the new park in front of the GRB.
what's the Houston Pavillions project? as for the subject buildings..sounds like they're not going up.
ok..that shows me what they'll look like...and that they're an entertainment complex...but what does that mean exactly? what will it actually offer?
http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/index.php?showtopic=1851&pid=48456&st=400&#entry48456 I believe it's already been approved.....
when i said the subject buildings i meant the buildings made the subject of this thread. sorry. the shamrock tower and ballpark place.
I meant the Houston Pavilions have been approved...the link I posted is about the Pavilions...kind of long.
