^ You're assuming that JayWill would be willing to play in the NBDL, because I highly doubt he would sign w/ a team if he knew he would be sent to the DreamLeague to play ball.

NBA practice is 10 times more competitive than the NBDL. A team would have to sign him first if they wished to send him to the NBDL. So if you sign him to a guaranteed contract, you're better off keeping on the team, monitoring him closely and teaching him your system. The PG is the one who needs to be the most knowledgable in order to run the plays and set the tone for the team.

Besides, Jay is a proud guy. He would not accept going to the NBDL.

At this point, the league minimum is all we got. I have no prob giving him 2 years. No prob giving him longer than that as long as there is some sort of team option.

As long as there is no promise of PT(which there wouldn't be), then I don't see the harm.

Everyone on this board has been screaming for three years that Yao doesn't get enough practice during the season. That would seem to contradict your statement. I would consider MLB better than AAA, but alot of players get sent down to AAA to heal and get their game back under real game conditions. A number of NFL players have made their bones playing in arena football or going to NFL Europe for a season or two. I don't buy your argument at all. As for his pride, if he wants to get back to making millions for playing a game he had better lose his pride for a while and prove he is worth it. If he is good and playing well, the Rox would have him up here in a heartbeat to start at PG because we need him.

Ward gets what, 4 million a year?

Jay Williams would be only be getting like 600k per year average over 3 years...right?

THAT IS CHUMP CHANGE EVEN IF HE DOESN'T SEE THE COURT SO WHY NOT TAKE THE PLUNGE ON HIM?

It is right we have a logjam at the guards, but look at our point guards....Wesley, Sura, MJ, Moochie, Ward, and Head...

Wesley, Sura, and Ward are all at the end of their career
There is a high possibility Wes, Ward, Mooch, and Baker are gone by the deadline to get a more significant player in return bc of their expiring contracts.....Just Cut one of them, but retain their contracts....who care we pay Mooch, Ward, and Baker....They do nothing on the court anyways....

Sura is always bang up and losing speed.....Jwill may workout, may not, but this is for a MININUM NBA CONTRACT....
JWILL play well in Chicago his 1st yr especially when Bill Cartwright was running a triangle for players who arent suitable for a triangle offense and he had NO IDEA what he was doing....

This guy put a triple double a few times....one of them of on JKIDD...I know he got hurt really bad, but give the kid a chance....

Yeah, but he was 80% two months ago, and now he's... let's see... STILL 80%! My guess is he'll be 80% by Christmas, 80% by the All-Star game, and maybe 81%-82% by next summer.

Disclaimer: Of course, none of us saw his workout, so we're all just babbling here, aren't we? :)

Two years at the minimum, with a player option for the second year, if he looks good enough during the workout to take a chance on. It's fair to him and if he is useful, the Rocks will reward him. I very much doubt that we will take that chance, though.

I think picking up Williams would be bad-ass for the fact of having both the #1 and #2 draft picks from 2002. "How sweet it is?!" :D

    ^^

There is alot of confusion of what we can offer Jason Williams. All we can offer is the league minimum (641,748). The max length a league minimum contract can be for is two years. So Deckard's post is about the most beneficial offer we could make to him.

I'm all for bringing in Williams and dumping one of the Baker, Moochie or Ward guys.

    Your 06/07 Rockets
    Yao/Deke
    Swift/Howard
    T-Mac/Bowen
    Sura/Head
    V-Span/J-Will

Jeez, that's all we need is another guard on the roster.

But why give him a look? Why bring him in for a workout? He would really have to show something special for us to sign him. Unless we had some trade in the works to ease the logjam of this roster (apologies for bringing that up a million times or more).

If we don't sign him and he makes a good comeback, we'll be complaining CD didn't do anything.

If we sign him for the minimum for the max years (2), then all we lose is a crap guard in Mooch or Ward (who wouldn't play anyways) and the minimum (which is chump change).

Come on this shouldn't even be a discussion. Jason Williams will be a great addition to the team, if not as injury insurance, then as a good presense in the locker room. Guys will look up to and respect a guy who beat those odds. When Deke and Barry retire, the Rockets will need to replace that toughness they bring to the team psyche. If I had to bet money I'd say that he will be a productive backup for a good decade. Remember the article where his trainer said he wouldn't have taken the job getting him ready for NBA play if he didn't think he could do it? If it worked out for us, it would also mean more media attention surrounding his comeback. Let's build up all the hype we can before we make our title run. :)

Two years, because no one else will offer him 2 guaranteed years.

It is chump change considering what we are paying others.

Give him 2 guaranteed years and a team option for the 3rd and hope he comes back....if not....big deal...better than Ward or Mooch.

Uh, we would need injury insurance for Jason Williams - he's coming off a more serious injury than anyone on our roster. A guy with one disappointing year of NBA experience followed by a serious injury is just that. He'd be a good reminder of the consequences of not following contractual obligations, but that's about it.

He might be better than the 14th or 15th guy on the roster, but even if he makes this team, I honestly doubt he makes a contribution much bigger than say Ryan Bowen.

Sure. But what happens if he doesn't sign with the Rockets?

Assuming he signs with the Rockets, we will have a bet.

    If not.....no bet.
