Well whoever made the thread, great job on the title (China Vs Taipei) guess it worked well But I guess the title says it all. China Vs Taipei. Until Taiwan can actually be called Taiwan when it matters or the US started calling herself "Washington", China "Beijing" and UK "London" there's simply no arguments. What Taiwan? There is no Taiwan. China is jealous? Oh please: Your sir, would you please kindly shut yo face?
No. Hong Kong is part of China, and will never belong to Taiwan. There is no fuel here and this fire won't start burning.
Really? But I heard that Western powers are positioning to aid a Taiwanese invasion of the Mainland......in which the PRC will then be partitioned and Britain will get HK, the US gets Hunan province, and Israel gets Tibet.....with the remainder staying under Taiwanese control (except for half of Beijing which will go to Liechtenstein)...
so...ummmm.... that was some game, huh? ummmmm.... you know...basketball? It's a game where two teams square off and try to outscore each other by making more "baskets"....a "basket" occurs when the ball goes through the circular doohickey with the net hanging off of it... perhaps some of you are familiar with the game... let's talk about it...
first of all I say Taiwan is not a country because china likes to have it. The US would support Taiwan independence if China said it was okay. China decides what happens to Taiwan, nuff said on a furthur note I think there should 2 post counts, 1 with actual posts, and 2 one with posts referring to locking and general whine sentiment
Actual posts? I am sure you aren't including 98% of the posts in this thread in that case..seeing as how those have nothing to do with the game itself...(and yes this includes all the political posts+the lock it posts).
Taiwan's political history is so complicated that, realistically, there is no rational argument as to what it's "legal" international status should be. Here is a brief history. After WW II, PRC defeats KMT. KMT comes to Taiwan, and not everybody is happy. The unhappy people would rather rule themselves. The KMT dreams naively of retaking China. PRC dreams of destroying KMT. KMT has problems with the unhappy people who were already on Taiwan. PRC has no idea how to react to these unhappy people. KMT loses to these unhappy people, and suddenly none of KMT, PRC, or the previously unhappy people know whether they are friends are enemies. All Taiwanese and Chinese people are left confused, and believe whoever's propaganda sounds best. The only clear issues are pragmatic: money, military importance, and not wanting to be somebody's b*tch. China wants to make Taiwan it's b*tch, not b/c the PRC is still mad at the KMT, but b/c it wants money and it wants the military location. The people on Taiwan would rather keep their own money, would rather not be bombed (by China or anybody else), and, understandably, don't want to be anybody's b*tch. Isn't that their right?
I have to say that this is about the best summary here. only thing to add is that KMT initially reacted to the unhappy ppl in Taiwan by murdering them and commiting other acts of atrocity against the Taiwanese ppl.
You are right in your basic assessment, but as to who have the right to what, only history will be able to tell. There have been many threads in the D&D about this and another one will not change anyone's mind on the subject. I hope in the future the two side will form a mutually beneficial relationship and not a confrontational one, in the mean time, hopefully rational minds are making the decisions.
Correct on most accounts, except the fact that even if Taiwan was a backwater trenchpost, Mainland China still wants it back.
Yes, China wants it for reasons other than economics. Chiefly, it wants Taiwan b/c it thinks that Taiwan is a puppet of the US, and it doesn't like the idea that Taiwan, as it stands, enables the US to have a military base sitting in China's backyard. The dreamy nationalistic talk about the PRC wanting to "make China whole" is silliness. It's just some misplaced angst that China has about its losses from 19th century imperialism. The ppl in the PRC govt really could care less about that stuff. But they keep yelling about it to give its citizens something to think about other than the many problems that crop up with economic development. Anyway, I think the key issue is this: Do China's desires for total military control of its Pacific coast outweight the people of Taiwan's wish for autonomy? P.S. B4 I get warned, GO ROCKETS! I believe Yao Ming could beat Chin-Feng Chen in a game of basketball, but can not hit Chen's fastball.
I dunno wtf you all are talking about.. My family comes from the long lines of of people etc. in Taiwan, I mean, generations and generations ago.. way before there were friggin' commies in China. I speak Taiwanese, which if you analyze in comparison is furthest removed from Mandarin Chinese. There is no f-in' way you're going to tell me that I'm in anyhow part of China. Too many differences to claim the same thing... so get that through your head.
Just remember for every person who thinks like you in Taiwan, there are at least 10 who think China should send the army and take Taiwan tomorrow in China. compromise and mutually acceptable solutions are much better for both sides.
