Never confuse the best team with the best player or MVP, entirely different things. No question Barry Sanders was the greatest running back ever but did the Lions ever win. Same with Garnett, he is to me the best PF in the game, his numbers tell me that 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in six consecutive seasons, in addition to his 82 games played for the last 3 seasons.

Duncan may be the MVP on the best team but KG is my #1 PF.

amare may be a natural PF but this is going to be the 2nd season of him playing center, so you have to put him at center.

no he stated he wanted to play PF this season thats why they brought in Kurt Thomas to play C and Amare could move back to PF.

They wanted to play more traditional ball...

so Amare played one season as center .

Who cares about range? We're talking big men here. Yao has more range than Shaq. Juwan has more range than Amare. No one cares. Give me the player with a better post game.

The rebounding is pretty much a wash to me. KG probably has more rebounding range, but Duncan is stronger and can overwhelm guys more easily.

KG is a better free throw shooter, but because of his range and propensity to shy away from contact, he gets to the line a lot less. Duncan has been in the league for 2 fewer years than KG, but he has shot 700 more freethrows, and he has more makes than KG as well.

KG does not have to be a target when the game is on the line because he never takes the big shots. He has passed the ball in too many crucial situations to count. Even when Duncan was choking terribly from the line, he still demanded the ball and took it to the defense.

All good points. Everybody's got their opinion on the whole KG/Duncan thing. I just don't like it when people use the teams success as the basis for who is the better player.

I think Amare may be better than all of them in a couple of years. His athleticism is just freakish. And he really should be considered a PF while Duncan should be considered a center.

Yeah i've always considered Duncan to be center, but it's just been so long that you have to call him a power foward. He doesn't wanna play centre for his own reasons (i'm not sure what they are if anyone does i am curious to know) But yeah, i think he just prefers it.

If I had to build a team around one player, it would be Duncan over KG, hands down.

I would take KG over Duncan any day. A different team with better supporting casts and a GM that knows what he is doing would give Garnett the edge in my opinion. Heck a happy Spree and a happy old Sam Cassell helped the Wolves get to the Western Conference Finals. Barring an injury to Sam Cassell they almost looked ready to smack the Lakers with malone payton kobe and Shaq from reaching the finals.

NBA basketball is less of a team sport than any other sport. A team's best player in the NBA has more effect on their success than any other factor. When one player is leading teams to championships, and the other consistently can't get his team out of the first round of the playoffs (and not even that far this past year), the difference between the two is not merely an issue of spare parts.

I assume you mean any other TEAM sport. I agree your point to a certain extent. The best player of the team has MORE effect on their success than any other factor. But he is not the ONLY factor. Hakeem and Jordan didn't lead any team to championships before Isiah Thomas did. So before 91, you would think Isiah a better player than Hakeem and Jordan? See the flaw of your argument?

To me, the "championship" measure is a case of circular reasoning. Why do you think Player X is a winner? Because he won championship. Why did he win championships? Because he is a winner.
