I guess a threat is a threat, but don't they have more important issues to investigate...

    Secret Service investigating university student

Louisville, Kentucky - The Secret Service has its eye on a Kentucky student. Twenty-one-year-old Phillip Bailey is being investigated for suggesting President Bush be shot.

Bailey is chairman of the University of Louisville Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee.

He says he posted a message on a Web site in response to someone else who suggested that looters in New Orleans should be shot.

Bailey wrote that many people were simply trying to find necessities to stay alive. His posting called for shooting "every cop, national guard and politician who stands in your way, including George W. Bush if need be."'

The Secret Service says it'll be up to the US attorney's office to decide if Bailey is charged with making threats against the president. That offense can carry a five-year prison term.

I find advocating shooting cops and national guardsmen more upsetting than shooting Bush. For the sake of the SS, it's not because I think Bush should be shot; he should not be. But, cops and soldiers were available to be shot at and were shot at. Not cool.

Semi-related...some guy a couple of years ago tried to be smart and send a threat email to Clinton from his roomates computer at SFA. I think the guy is still in jail. Do not mess with secret service, they don't joke around..you will lose.

Think school shootings, if someone had just investigated the kids who were saying they were gonna shoot someone. Wouldn't have happened. So I say let 'em check it out. If the kid is clean it'll be obvious.

What you have to also look at is the decision making process here. Assuming the kid went to the press, why'd he do that? It makes you wonder. Most people would let the Secret Service do what they had to do and admit they screwed up. But what does he do, he takes it to the press. Seeking fame, Seeking to put a knock on the secret service. Those two things right there describe John Wilkes Booth. Now turn that page as you will, but The kid is making some poor decisions which makes you wonder what else he is capable of.

Aside from that. I bet he's no longer chairman of the non-violent committee.

Was it really a threat though? He was referring to people who needed to obtain things to help them survive. He wasn't openly clamoring for someone to shoot the president.

Imagine tho', hearing that phrase in Iraq on the air waves and the president is flying in. Then not tell anyone about it. Given the context that the president will be in or around new orleans and given that you have essentially a street war breaking out in the city, Its' the type of thing that jumps out at some people.

You're right. Still, am I right to say what I said in the statement you quoted? Nobody should do that, period. Right?
