Different rules, different sport. It makes some sense to extend players you may not be sure of in the NFL because the contracts aren't completely guaranteed like they are in the NBA. Pitts has played fairly well and has potential to do better, and the organization knows that. The deal is partly a gamble... but the downside isn't all that much considering the nature of the sport's contracts. And not even a real game, for that matter... all it takes is one bad meaningless exhibition.
Well, you guys do know that NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, right? So the length of the deal is not important. With that said, when Pitts is not false starting, he is a pretty good player.
