Would you trade Wesley for Fisher?

I'd do this trade (which is why I'm no GM) only if it somehow involved nabbing a player such as Dunleavy (a player they've considered moving), which would involve other players and/or draft picks.

Fisher does make his 3 pointers at a decent clip. Not much good inside the arc when he has a hand in his face; but that's about it....4.1 assists per game? Hell, T-Mac, Derek Anderson, and Bob Sura can easily surpass that on any given night.

What DS said. Why would we want that horrific contract?? We're damned lucky not to have been stupid enough to shell out the rediculous bucks he managed to stuff in his back pocket. If he'd been cheap, or even reasonable, maybe. Thank god we've stopped signing average players to absurd deals. (thank somebody!)

Scar, I'm not sure if I'd want to sign James to a multi-year MLE type contract unless he really shows us more consistancy playing within Gumby's system than he did last season. James is a bit frustrating... he clearly has the talent and tools to be a major cog in our rotation, but that consistent, "know what he's got every night" kind of play hasn't show up yet, imo. Hopefully, he'll blossom this season. I like him.

That is the great thing concerning James, DA, and DW as well, we have a full camp and year to evaluate them. If James underperforms, he may not opt out and just take his 4 mil in 06. If he perform well, he will opt out, and if we evaluate he performed well both individually and within the team framework we can resign him with our EBRs and leave our exemptions in tact. Similarly, with DA, we have a year of a bargain price. He will also probably opt out, and we can decide if we want to be in the picture for resigning him--though we would have to break into our own MLE to go over 2 mil year. We have full Bird Rights for DW too, and his contract is up. So if we want to we can sign DW for whatever we want (2 mil?) at whatever years (1-2 years) agreeable to both parties, and not use another exemption.

But either way, we are not locked into these players. That is a great position, and not one you have with other vets on the decline with long term contracts like Fisher (or B Barry).

You've just got to love how CD and JVG have set up this team. Such competency from the front office is almost frightening. Where did this suddenly come from?? ;)

Fisher can do most everything Wesley does with a better handle. IF not for his horrible contract, I think this could be a considerable proposal. BUT. . . that contract!

I wouldn't make the trade because the two players are quite similar and also because Wesley has chemistry with our team.

    NO WAY.

Fisher has a horrible contract that pays him til he is 70 years old.

No, they both are the same type of player, same size same shot, but Wesley played with us last year so he gels/makes the chemsitry stay intact.

So No I wouldn't do it.

No way in hell I would take on that contract. Even if they had the same contract duration, I would prefer Wesley.

But I would trade Wesley for Brent Barry, though, despite Barry's longer contract and his age.

    No.
Not only because of his contract, but also he is not reliable as Wesley on the court.

I dont understand why everyone wants to get rid of Wesley. He was a very good underrated defensive player last year. I think a big reason as to why he wasn't very effective in the Dallas series was that he was injured.

No way someone of Fisher’s caliber comes here. With all the off season activity cumulating in high expectation, excitement, and anticipation, I think the Rocket brass and coaching staff will let the situation be played out on the court amongst the players on the 'as-of-now roster'. We do have some time we can spend accessing chemistry. I feel the 'one other move' will come closer to the season opener than most. At this point, I suspect James will get the nod at PG with a sideline-pacing Sura ready and foaming at the bit until he heals.

I do not expect Wesley to be going anywhere soon and am most happy that Baxter got signed for the 15th spot. He played heart and soul tough in Maryland’s NCAA championship. He deserves a break and chance to prove his choice is well timed. I expect that one other move might not come soon enough to abate everyone’s restlessness but I won’t get into any of the endless 2fer scenario.

Of note: cool heads, persistence, and tenacity have served well this summer. I expect the last roster move possible (if there is one) to be played out with that same professional precision.

CD has done a great job of getting rid of our bad contracts, I don't think they would want to add D-Fish and the rest of his 4 years left on his contract.

If we are going to deal Wesley and/or expiring contract, we should wait until before the deadline when teams might get desperate for some cap relief.

What is this fascination with Derek Fisher? Especially now with his contract!?
